Calumet Farm accomplished a feat as breeder/owner that nobody else has ever done. It involves the Derby...?

Hmmmm..... Aside from their 8 Derby winners, Calumet bred so many great horses and champions, including 2 Triple Crown winners in Citation and Whirlaway, 3 winners of the first 2 legs of the TC in Pensive, Tim Tam and Forward Pass, Filly Triple Crown winner - Davona Dale(1979), etc. However, the only thing I can think of that makes Calumet truly unique in the annuals of Derby history is the fact that they bred Forward Pass, the only horse in the history of the sport to be awarded the win on a disqualification, when the first horse to cross the line, Dancers Image, was later disqualified for a bad test(Bute).

Aha.....how about Calumet Butler, who won the Hambletonian, first leg of harness racing's triple crown in 1931. Thus Calumet is the only owner/breeder to have won a triple crown race in both flat and harness racing.

As unfortunate as it is, if they are innocent, the name Calumet is forever burned into my memory together with Alydar´s strangely shattered leg while in his stall during the night, the 36 + million $ insurance payout after he had to be euthanized, and the insuing suspicions that it was purposely done for the insurance $, given the huge amt of debt they were in...
