Why do some football fans support Michael Vick?
It is just hard for me to believe and I just want to understand why. Look what he has done. Please provide me with well supported answers. I will keep an open mind, but at the same time be prepaired for a little debate if your answer is incomplete or lacks overall knowledge.
Thank you for your participation and please, no bashing. I really want to know what people think.
BA will be given to the best supported answer.
Forte is the Future - LOL! That is blasphemy. All 32 teams have already said they are not interested.
Jaypee says what's up everyone.
Jaypee - I see you are supporting the con side of Vick coming back, but what I am looking for is the reason why he is supported.
Amit - He deserves a 2nd chance at life, but that does not mean he deserves a 2nd chance in the NFL. There is a lot at stake for a team that signs him. What e did was no accident. Please support your answer better. We are talking about a man who killed dogs for pleasure. Who is to say this guy hasn't had thoughts of the pleasure of killing a man. That is usually where killers start. I am really looking for a good reason so please do not take my response as an attack on you.
Mr. Spock - Hmmm. I think your going somewhere with this. Fans that want him to make their team better. So is the morality of the man not important? Also, why do you have me blocked bro.
Norman Bates - I see your point, but the media has not told the entire story. It isn't all about the dogs. That is the story that sells to the public. What the big crime really is was his illegal gambling ring that he helped fund, participate and run. He could have gotten over 20 years but only got 23 months. I don't know a state that allows cock fighting to be legal in the US. Despite that, hunting deer and your other examples are legal. We also can't use other players as examples to what Vick did because they are under different circumstances. FYI, Travis Henry is not playing in the NFL because of his drug trafficking.
Norman Bates - I never said he can not have fans. I just want to know why. I am not trying to crucify any Vick fans. It just seems like most Vick fans are either not knowledgeable of what Vick was tried for, or skate around the true facts of his convictions.
Jack T - Like most Vick supporters, yourskating around the facts. Please review my comment to Amit. Thank you.
Billy B - You said it yourself, Leonard Little's incident was an accident. Vick's incident was premeditated and deliberate. There is a difference.
Putting down a dog because of illness and age is far different than killing dogs for pleasure.
Why are we comparing different incidents as if they are the same? They are not. Is this the only way to justify Vick? Come on Vick supporters, please provide me valid reasons instead of using unrelated examples as to why he should play. I find that too many Vick Supporters are hiding behind the "2nd chance" reason without understanding what it means to have a second chance.
greg G - It wasn't tax evasion. Dog Fighting is illegal in that state.
Greg G - Thank you for your answer! You got it right and I think you are really following what the Vick incident was all about. Great job on your answer. I commend you for it. However, realize that your examples were not found guilty as was Vick. We also have to consider that the Personal Conduct Policies of the NFL state that no player is allowed to participate in any form of gambling and first time offenders risk life time banishment.
Shawn - Again, please read my comment to Amit.
Michael Vick # 7 - You are only using 1/8 of the story to justify your reasons. What is the other 7/8? You are only supporting my stand that Vick supporters are ignoring all the facts. You can't just pick and choose what you think is relevant.

I think a lot of people are easy to forgive and forget, when a professional athlete is the one being talked about. If you saw a dog fighting story in the newspaper about an average civillian who had committed that crime, they would be hated upon for a long time, and get a large prison sentence. Michael Vick however, being the QB that he was is more respected by some people. I'm not trying to be racist at all, but African Americans seem to feel for him the most and thats where his support comes from. I guess they support him because they want to see his talent in the game, whether it be with Atlanta or a new team. Leaving him in prison or out of the league is a waste of talent.

I think people use personal issues too not like Vick as a athlete. I'm by no means excusing what he did however that has nothing too do with who he was as a football player. Thats whats not whats in question the man can play football make no bones about it but the media has tried too crucify him for what he does away from the game in his personal life.
I personally think that the whole dog fighting issue was blown out of proportion. We live in a country where people fight "Gamecocks" and there a huge Million dollar Big Game Hunting market were people kill Deer, Reindeer, some animals have even become endangered species because of hunters BUT THIS IS TOTALLY LEGAL. Then Vick is involved in dog fighting and the media turns him into this heartless monster. They kicked him out the NFL, Sent him too prison, took all of his money and now you mean too tell me THE GUY CANT HAVE ANY FANS EITHER.
Professional athletes in recent years have been convicted of Drug Usage, Rape, Murder, Steroids and a number of other crimes agents Humans. Vick has paid the money and done the time let the man live life now.

Because their teams are in trouble, and they think Vick is Jesus or something and that he can save them. He's good, but if he does play, he should be limited to #2 on the depth chart and only play if the main one gets injured (as punishment). But I hope he isn't allowed to play at all, myself. Matt Ryan as taken over the Falcons and turned the around. Letting him play will be completely illogical! Is if he is allowed to play I would love to seem him get injuried on the first snap and have to sit out the season. What happened is the Roger Goodwill asked him if he did, personally. And Michael Vick clearly said "no", but he was proven guilty and did it undergorund style.

I'm sure plenty of football players smoke illegal drugs, not just Michael Vick. Yeah, he was caught with the dog fighting business and admitted to brutally killing 8 dogs. There's worse that happens though, honestly. Yeah, it was dumb of him, and I dislike the fact he did it, but I'd rather he killed 8 dogs than 8 people.

i support him because hes only human we all make mistakes. our former president went to war for weapons that was never found nothing happened to him for all the human life lost. Vick already paid to much for this he was very rich and famous no hes filling bankruptcy. only because he is a celebrity the average person wouldn't have been in so much trouble people criticise celebs like they are not people who makes mistakes and supposed to live there lives like the Pope. i believe in second chances if he mess this up i will never support him again and im sure he learned from this.

What Micheal Vick did is not as bad as what alot of players do. Lenard Little killed a family in a drunk Driver accident and was only suspended for a few games and there are lots of players like that. What Vick did wasn't even that bad. I mean yes its wrong but I know some hill billy kids from my school that put there dogs down when they get old by shooting it in its head, yes its screwed up but it happens. Its very hard to get kicked out of the NFL. most fans don't care about there players because there good people they care about them because they are good football players. If you do stuff on the field like terrell owens and it effects your play then fans are going to hate you. what you do off the field is your problem.

You can guess any # of reasons! Some will say what he did was all right given the enviorment he was raised in.Others will say it is wrong to punish him for something he did off the field.Others just say it was because he was black that the world came down on him. That if this would have happend to a white guy you would have never heard of it!Others will say no matter what he did he paid his his time and should be able to move on! I disagree on all counts! I will not go into details because it would seem like a rant!I just want to say this guy will make any team that signs him regret it!

People support him because he is fun to watch and is a good football player, people make mistakes and he has paid his price. Plus the only reason he went to jail is because of running an organization that did not pay taxes on. The whole dog killing thing may have gotten him a couple extra weeks but this was really his most minor offense in the eyes of the government. M. Vick was the most dominating player in college most people have ever seen and will ever see. Pacman Jones didn't get this much crap, only because his boys missed the people they shot at. what about Ray Lewis he was accused of murder, of course that was thrown out and he is now one of the biggest faces in the NFL. I don't think OJ got as much crap as Vick is for cutting peoples freakin heads off, and I know people don't want to here it but pitbulls are evil monsters too. I hear every day about a couple of pitbulls ripping a little girl to shreds. But hey it's just in their instinct,,,,,,as it was for Vick.

They're hero worshippers. They need to live part of their lives through others and can't deal with the fact that Vick's a habitual criminal.

Some people are just stupid. Everyone knows (or at least I hope everyone knows) that bad company corupts good character. This guy is bad company. I think that only a really stupid team like the Raiders would sign this guy. It only takes one small weight to tip the scale.
