can you filter oil from water?

it is a last minute project i need to know for tomorrow!!!

    You can let the oil form on top of the water and draw it off, or you can use a separatory funnel to let the water drain off from underneath.

    There are also phase separating filter papers that will retain the water while passing the oil (perhaps very slowly)

    Sure you can. You can use a centrifuge to spin the water out, or you can simply let it all settle down and then scrape the oil off the top of the water, or just use a funnel filter.

    freeze the water and pour off the oil. Siphon the water from under the oil.

  • umm yes .....pour oil and pour water in a container .....the one with the highest density should should settle in the bottom and the lower density should remain afloat. they are immiscible so i think they would be easier to separate.

    funnel filtration should work
