So we are in a pandemic... what now?

So the World Health Organization called for a stage six pandemic. I thought when that happens no one is supposed to leave their house, and everything closes down.... but... that is not happening? I'm confused, what does a pandemic really mean?

A pandemic is really just a level of health concern in a virus. The United States and Mexico which are the two hardest hit countries by this virus expect to change nothing for the current time being. Other countries may or may not change what they will do for this virus. They just declared a Global pandemic so don't expect immediate changes in the government. So you can expect changes in the next few weeks to months.

dancer - Relax a bit. Do not panic. "Pandemic" does NOT mean that the new flu is more deadly or worse. The Stage 6 flu virus is no more dangerous than the Stage 3 or Stage 1 virus. It just indicates a spread to countries outside the one major international region - like different continents. Do as you would to prevent spreading colds. Stop shaking hands. Avoid lip-kissing, if possible. Wash hands often during the day. Avoid coughing people who spray in your direction. Use disposable tissues to wipe your nose. If you feel feverish, check your temperatures. If you get a fever above 101 degrees, contact a health clionic or your doctor.

when people hear the word pandemic they instantly think of the black death and spanish flu. The real definition of pandemic is that most of the world is affected. It has NOTHING to do with how serious the virus is itself. In other words, the common cold is a pandemic. If the common cold doesn't worry you why should the swine flu. The answer is it shouldnt.
