What makes the Sims 2 and Sims 3 different from the first Sims?

The one on the computer. I haven't played the Sims 2 and just heard of the Sims 3. What's different about it's gameplay and such other than that the animation's different?

The Sims 1 (TS1) was a very basic people simulator, which, as you mentioned, you are familiar with.

The Sims 2, was a vast step up from TS1, with not only more advanced graphics, but infinitely more power elsewhere- suddenly your sims have facial expressions! They're fully 3d, right down to a little row of teeth when they grin! EA (having taken over the franchise from MAXIS, thus referred to as EAxis) have added more levels to your sims' character too- they can find nerdy blondes attractive, but be utterly turned off by redheads, or smelly people. The same points system for defining character remains, but it has more bearing on your sims characters- this time not just affecting basic reactions. For example a serious sim with little or no playful points will actually get fun from reading a book, whereas a playful sim can often be caught playing pretending their bath is a pirate ship and dancing about! Subsequent expansion packs added seasons and then hobbies. The latter added neat little idle animations, for example a sim with high film and literature enthusiasm will get out a book when 'idle' (not really doing anything, just standing around) and read it.

The neighbourhood is customisable, and you can see the surrounding houses and any features you place from your selected lot. You can also import terrains from SimCity, and thus create your own custom neighbourhoods from scratch.

Furthermore, the sims 2 allows a deep level of customisation, with several internet communities dedicated to creating free high quality custom content, and sharing it with other users. There are numerous mods available, including ones to change sim behaviour (less peeing themselves, that sort of thing) and the community for the sims 2, even now post Sims 3 release, continues to thrive.

The Sims 3 is a whole different kettle of fish: for the first time in the history of the Sims, the entire neighbourhood is accessible and explorable by your sims, from visiting the graveyard, and exploring the crypt, to popping across to that spot between your's and your neighbours lot, and picking up a rare plant or two. However, the game is far less open ended than TS2, almost enforcing Legacy Style play (where you have One Family, and you just try and breed them and keep them Awesome for as many generations as possibly,) as the entire neighbourhood progresses around your sims, and by the time you return from playing another family, your sims may have spawned extra children, got different jobs, died or even moved out of town! (there is a mod to fix this now, but EAxis didn't bother to actually make the option work)

It also introduces the 'create a style' option, allowing you to retexture, and edit almost everything within the game, from deciding what colour your sims highlights are in their hair, to whether they really want a paisley tie with that outfit, to giving them an entire matching camo patterned lounge!

Furthermore, the points system has been ditched when assigning your sims personalities- you now pick them 'traits', such as 'artistic' or 'kleptomaniac' or even 'pyromaniac' (a hidden trait produced if you manage to breed your sim with a fireman). These traits all affect how your sims behave and interact. For example a Vegetarian sim cannot cook meat dishes, gets ill if they eat a dish with meat, and can preach about vegetarianism to other sims they interact with. Other sims can applaud their vegetarianism. A sim who has nudity issues will bathe in swimwear, and insane sims tend to sleep in their formal wear. On top of this, traits affect how your sims feel- so a sim who hates art will get a negative 'moodlet' from being around art, and a sim who is good, will get a positive one from donating to charity! There is far more depth to your sims in the sims 3.

Its also beautiful, the town is gorgeous, and you can visit all of it!

Overall, the Sims 2 is a clear progression from the original game, and (with custom content) can look even better than the sims 3, however, for the sheer additions of depth to the Sims 3, its probably a better choice- particularly as there are already a considerable amount of mods out, and the game's only been out for three weeks! Though if you buy it, its well worth visiting www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf to get the AwesomeMod, a script mod that'll fix a lot of the glitches that EAxis left in the game.

I just got and installed the Sims 3! I love both of them, I really haven't gotten to play the game but so far so good. The controls are different, instead of being able to drag your cursor where you want the camera to move to you have to click and drag, which frustrates me and will take time getting used too. The way things are organized are also different. But i really do think it is better.

There aren't any expansion packs so far, but there is the create a style which is amazing! You can match your shoes to your dress. And you can change the colors of about everything (i.e. bike, car, laptop, curtains on bed, clothes hair, makeup, walls, furniture, cabinets chairs dressers and more). I am sure that they will have more expansion packs because you aren't able to go to collage.

The clothes are good but the adult hair is laking styles, but when you buy the game you get a ten dollar cash card and then you can go on the sims 3 website and get some cooler hair. What I also like is you can add highlights and tip and root colors.

Right now the Sims 3 is $49.99 (including the cash card), this is what I have and recommend, with the collectors Edition it is $59.99 and you get a car, USB stick and one other thing, but if you are going to get a game guide I highly recommend that you get the regular Sims 3.

The game guide I recommend is the collectors Edition, it is $20.00. This is not for the Collectors Edition game, you can have either. You get a map of Sunset valley, mouse pad, and a detailed description of the game. It is sold at Best buy, the link is below.

The sims 2 has a lot more items because of the expansion packs. There is more hair and bigger neighborhoods. But the sims 3 has much better graphics and more stuff to do. There are going to be expansion packs but no one knows when they are going to be released.I really like the sims 3 but the sims 2 is great too.

    Hope it Helped!!!!

The animations are so much better. You can actually have children that grow up and stuff and make familys in the sims 2 and 3. Its so much more fun that the sims. Once I've played the sims 2 and 3, its made the sims very boring.

the sims 1 is ALOT different from the sims 2 and 3. In the sims 2 and 3 you have alot more customizing options but in the sims 1 you just have certain heads to chose and full outfits. If you were to play the sims 1 and then play the other two you would find a huge different, and if you are thinking of one to buy i would deffinitly suggest the sim 3. Its the closest game to real life that you will be able to find.

The first sims is not as developed as the sims 2 and 3. The sims 2 and 3 gives you more freedom to create and do almost anything you want. The game play is so much more realistic and fun. I think that's why it different.

The Sims games have evolved as technology has evolved and their are many many many different changes in the games. The sims 1 as I suppose you already have seen is a very simple games with not many options of things to do but when it was created it was a really great little game. When the sims 2 came along players were introduced to wants and fears which they don't have to fulfil but it was a great thing to focus on if you were happy with your sims jobs and friends and it promised great rewards for those who avoided their fears and ful filled their wants which were based on an 'aspiration' that they chose when creating their sim. Another very obvoius difference with the sims 2 was the aging of the sims, sims were aged right trhought pregnancy to childhood, to teen, to adulthood and then to being an elder and dying of old age (if you could keep interested in playing with one family for that long). There were some probelems, such as if you moved the children out of their house when they were adults and didn't play with the parents, they ended up older than their parents. But many of the problems faced were fixed up with either patches or expansion packs as sims could now go clubbing, drive cars, own pets and even take holidays. Theree are many other little surprises that nobody could write in one go so if this interests you then i recommend giving the game a try as its not all that different to the sims 3.

The sims 3 offers much less loading time than the sims 2 and a more open playing feild you can now follow your sim all around time and even visit other sims houses. Your sims now have their own unique personalities and personally selected lifetime wish. They can choose up to five very different traits ranging all over the place from kelptomaniac (obsessed with stealing things) to evil to ambitious to flirty to great kisser and so much more. You can also choose how well you want to work in your occupation and make friends with those you work with. This time, people actually turn you down if they are happily married which avoids confusion and a whole lot of cheating around town. Your options to personalise the game exactly how you like it re great and there are a lot of them, you can pick the exact body shape for your sim, the exact skin colour, hair colour, eye colour, clothing colour and more. you can even take a pattern from a tile and put it on a dress. It really is amazing! Probably one of the best things about sims 3 is that the city and the people grow around your sim and their moods and actions depend on yours.

I would reccommend having a play of both and choosing what is right for yo to play if you are interested but don't just stick to number one, its not all that good. The sims usually look a bit better in the sims2 but can be modified more in the sims 3 so it depends on what you like although the sims2 often leaves you hanging at loading signs A LOT and i'm loving not having this im the sims 3.

Hope this helps you out a bit.

In the sim2 your sim can get pregnant and enjoy watching their infant grow from an infant, into a toddler, a child, a teenager. Your sims age daily and eventually die. Friends become family friends. Therefore, a friend of the dad is also a friend of the mother in their friend count. Their are also much more decor and home modeling options you can use. In addition, more jobs, aspirations, appeal, hairstyles. All in all sim2 COMPLETELY outshines the sims1.

As for sims3, you can know utilize the entire neighborhood. You can customize your sim with more options. They have personalty traits. You can watch them gradually grow. Everyone in the neighborhood ages with you. There is probably a tons more!!!!

If you loved the sims1 upgrade! You'll be addicted!!!!!

There is a HUGE difference between the first Sims and Sims 2. The way your sims react is a lot different, and Sims 2 has way better graphics.

I just got The Sims 3, and to me, it is the best out of all three. In this sims, you have different househoolds, but you cannot veiw them all in the same city when they are all in their houses. Instead, it is like each household has it's own city. You can also walk around your city, and there are no load screens when going from lot to lot, a feature that the other sims do not have. The graphics in this game are also an improvement, with more detail.

The first Sims just sucks overall, and the third is most defidently the best.

On first Sims, you can't really create a sim. Like you cant make your own outfits, makeup, hair, ect. But on the sims 2 and 3 you can. Also, on the Sims 2 and 3, you can have babies, children, toddlers, teens, adults, and elders. Also, the people can grow up. In the sims 3, I heard you can make them more unique and that they are more independent.

    Hope I helped!

The sims 2 was an amazing upgrade from sims 1. In the sims 1, you only get three age groups: child, adult and elders. I don't really count the baby who stays in the bed as really an age. In the sims 2, you can six age groups: infant, toddler, child, teenager, adult and elder. The sims are much more detailed, and you can actually customize their apperance right down to the detail. The sims 3 is an upgrade of the sims 2: better quality, more features, etc.
