It is a scam. They hire 100% of all people who apply. That is your first tip-off.
They mention $16 an hour base pay. That is a lie.
You sell $700 sets of knives to your neighbors. That was hard during the good times. Now it is impossible. The same knives cost $90 at the store.
Vector makes each new hire buy a $143 set of "demo" knives. This is the heart of the scam. That set costs Vector $12.

I am a current employee of Vector Marketing, and I would like to clear up a few misconceptions for anyone currently reading this thread. Firstly, if you are doing the job correctly, you will make money off the commission, but there will always be no-sales. Even our best reps have bad days, and for appointments where commission is not earned you WILL receive base pay as long as the proper paperwork is filled out. And of course how much you get payed is dependent on how hard you work and how many appointments you do, that only makes sense.
Secondly, you will never go door-to-door. You will call people you've never met, but those are people that you've been personally recommended to, so there's no cold-calling either.
Thirdly, Vector has never asked reps to pay for their kits, only to put down a refundable security-deposit. And this is not a practice that is current in the company. We lend our reps over $400 dollars of product, which comes out of the pocket of the office manager. So you will never lose money working with Vector, even if you never do an appointment.
Fourthly, we hardly hire 100% of the people that apply. In my office, our hiring rate is barely over 60%, but we do like to give people a chance to be successful with the company.
Fifth, our products are not overpriced, we are actually priced vastly lower than our competitors of similar quality. Go to Williams-Sonoma and check out pricing for high-quality cutlery before you make up your mind on whether they're "overpriced".
Lastly, my own experience with Vector has been overwhelmingly positive. I have been working here for a while, have made very good money, and am now in training for management. I love the entire team in my office, they're like family to me, and my job is amazing. It is not for everyone-through no fault of their own-its just not a good fit for every person. However, I have never seen the company take advantage of a single person, and it does offer amazing opportunity for those who the position fits well for. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about going in for an interview to go ahead and try it, and make up your mind at that point.

Legally, probably not. But yes, it is way too good to be true. You'll be selling knives, and your wages will depend on how many appointments you can make with clients and then how well you can sell the product. My advice is: Find another job, don't go with Vector, it might as well be a scam.

Yes. Vector marketing is a scam. They run fake job interviews and then sell you a kit. Their goal is to have you sell your friends and family until you find out that they have recruited too many sales people for your area which causes your failure.
