Wondering about Sims 2 vs. Sims 3?

About 3 weeks ago, I bought sims 2 because I heard a lot about it from other people, and now I'm completely hooked. At the time, I thought about waiting for Sims 3, but I didn't want to buy a game that I wasn't sure if I'd like or not for a whole 50 dollars, and by buying sims 2 it was less the half the price.. I could get it right away.. and I had never played a sims game before - I wanted to try it out first before I'd spend 50 bucks on a game.

However.. now I've been looking at Sims 3 and it looks AMAZING. I'd have to save a little bit more money, but if I trade in my sims 2 game (along with some other ones, maybe), I'd have more than enough money.

Now, I'm just wondering if it would be worth it.

And to those who used to play sims 2 ....

Do you miss the neighborhoods/families you created in Sims 2?

Are there features in Sims 2 that you missed?

Are there a lot of bugs in Sims 3? (Since it's fairly new and all.. idk)

Are some of the families/sims for Sims 2 convertable to sims 3?

I'm really careful with spending my money, and I only want to trade in Sims 2 if I think it'll be worth it to get Sims 3...

*shrug*

What do you think?

Is sims 3 really that different that it would be worth it in the end?

Update:

OH! Another question.

I was reading some things, and something came up about downloading another town to add to Sims 3 from the official site. Does this mean that you can't create your own towns anymore? I thought it was pretty fun to design your own town, and it would be kinda upsetting if they removed that feature from Sims3.

i played sims 1 first then sims 2 which i loved and now i have sims 3 which i really really enjoy it, the gameplay, UI, customization, sim creation, graphics etc are all a lot better in my opinion. as far as i know and from research online you cant design your own towns excluding placing houses on preplaced lots and building your own houses. it doesnt have any of the main features from expansions on sims 2 (obviously) but it has jewelery and beaches from bon voyage, cars from nightlife (or was it open for business), etc. other than that its very enjoyable and far better than the other sims games

I have both right now. And only a couple expansion packs. I would probably say that Sims 2 is better. But only because Sims 3 is so much more complex and it can get confusing. I got really frustrated with it right away so i stopped playing it. Besides that fact though, the character creation on Sims 3 is waayyyy better than it is on Sims 2.

I really don't want to buy the sims 3 game yet... I don't want to waste my money because I have spent so much money on expansion packs for sims 2. So maybe I will ask for it for Christmas or something... lol

But here's my thought... I also don't want to get it because like I don't think it comes with pets, which sims 2 does. And I don't think it comes with seasons, which sims 2 does... same with all the other expansion packs. I am also so used to playing sims 2...

So if I were you... I wouldn't wast your money.. just ask for it for Christmas and "Santa" will bring it to you! :D

Source(s): Oh... and also! You can't trade your PC games into any game store! Stupid I know!! :P I've tried it at like all the game stores in my area... and they all said that they can't take PC trade ins >:( URG!! Ebay i guess... lol

I was wondering the same thing and I ended up giving in and buying the sims 3. It's excellent I definently recommend dishing out the money and upgrading. It still has most of the same controls and cheats but the gameplay is much better. THey really improved it. You can customize EVERYTHING. Like if you buy a bed you can make it unique picking a color for the wood, the bedspread, the pillows. You can do that to everything on a color wheel. You can still design your own town I just haven't tried it yet.

DON'T BUY IT!!!!!! i have both and sims 2 with the expansion packs is sooo much better! I'd day wait a few months when they have added expansion packs to sims 3 and it will be good... there are only a few things better than in sims 2 like the attention to detail and the fact that you can go into town but other than that its not worth alot of money just yeat i'd say wait a few months and see if they have added anything worthwhile to it...

to be honest i'm considering going back to sims 2
