Black Beans & Rice seasoning?
I am fixing a simple dish of Black Beans and Rice and was wondering if I can keep it to this:
Basmati rice steamed with no seasonings
Black beans cooked with a bit of beef broth along with ham hocks seasoned with salt, pepper, and cumin. Is this enough seasoning? I want to keep it simple but flavorful.
Thanks in advance.

Here is a slight variation of College girl's bistec...Bistec Empanizado (Breaded Steak). Just a couple more ingredients. Although sometimes the simpler the better :-) 4 steaks (1/4 inch thick) 1/2 cup onion, chopped 1 tbsp fresh garlic, minced 1/4 cup sour orange juice 1/4 tsp salt 4 eggs, beaten well 1 cup finely ground crackers, salt to taste 1/2 onion, sliced into rings Olive oil Sprinkle steaks with chopped onion, garlic, orange juice and salt. Rub garlic into meat. Marinate for a few hours in the refrigerator. Brush off the onion pieces and dip each steak into the egg to make sure its fully coated. Dip the steak into the crackers, making sure that the ground crackers completely cover the steak. Fry the steaks in cooking oil on medium heat until golden brown and well done. If you don't have time to marinate for a few hours ahead of the class, then just marinate it for about 20 minutes and then cook. Leave out the onions if you want. As for the rice...it's white rice. Some people add cumin or saffron to their dishes in some recipes (optional tastes for some who cook). Have fun cooking. *edit: thumbs down for what? Some people like to add saffron and cumin at times even though the colour comes from the beans. I'm only talking about recipe info.

Sounds good. When I lived at my parent's house my mom used to make steamed white rice (no seasoning) and pinto beans (salt, garlic), she did not use anything but salt and I remember it as being the best dish she made. We would top it with Mexican dry cheese (cotija) and a fire roasted tomato salsa---yum!
