Final Fantasy XI patches and updates?

I plan to buy FF11 but I don't know how many patches I would have to download. I have slow internet and I was wondering what the total size of downloading would be?

The patch is pretty brutal, the game has over 7 years of further developed downloadable content. The game is great, and it definitely shouldn't stop you from playing it, but youll probably have to let it download over night.

AS far as the sign up thing goes, they've been having trouble with the registration server ever since the free trial. Currently, they are having a big issue with masses of gil-sellers signing up on the trial, and it would seem this is lagging and crashing their registration server on occasion.

Hmm... not sure how big the files were, but I just recently patched it. Ihave a 4.5mb connection, and the patch took me 5 hours. So, with a slow connection, you're in for more than that.

OT a bit, but FFXI is buyer-beware at the moment. I bought my copy and tried to sign up for over a month before I could get their registration screen to work. Apparently they fix it every month after maintenance, and then it breaks, and is broken until the following month. Very frustrating... SE has one of the most annoying, frustrating sign up procedures I've ever seen in an MMO. So, just be aware.
