I'd have to agree with Hank 3's opinion that "the grand ole opry ain't so grand anymore." While I don't think the Opry has the prestige it once did, neither is what the music labeled country today what traditional Opry fans like. For some artists it may be good for their resume, but what true musical artist -of any genre - is concerned more about reputation than the music?

Sad to say it, but there is Politics in Country, and although we may like even have a passion for some country singers, they can also lose sight of what is really important in life. Sadly, The Grand Ole 'O' does not have the attraction it once had for country singers. Being invited to sing there was once the greatest accolade a country singer could receive. Now it can be just money and petty differences that take prime position. I guess like me, it just got old and out of date! Muleman.

The way Nashville picks members for the Opry now a days it's not as sacred anymore as it was back in the days. If your popular your asked to join to bring in attendance and money to the venue.

honestly I don't think it is that important anymore because now I see everyone who has only had one single or popular at the time at the grand ole opry it isn't an honor anymore! because anyone can go on that stage now!

Maybe not that Important seeing how Merle haggard has never been a member and chose not to and the Late great Vern Gosdin wasn't either and look at those Careers, so that's just my opinion..thanks for a good question.
