Has anyone else dealt with a slowly dying elderly parakeet?

She is 14 years old and appeared to have had a stroke about 10 days ago. Her right wing and foot no longer work. She stays on a towel at the bottom of her cage, crackling when she breathes and flopping around to get food and water nearby. It's heartbreaking, but she doesn't appear ready to let go. Just wondered if anyone out there has been through such an experience, and what they did to help their little pet?

    o gosh.

I'm really sorry to hear about that....I know how it feels to slowly watch your pet die and feel completely helpless... at first i just assumed he would die on his own(when i rescued him 3 years earlier he had been abused and neglected, he had multiple infections, as well as a wing he would never be able to use, due to the former owners "clipping"-more like chopping-the wings.) All he did was suffer......eventually things got so bad that i HAD to take him down to the exotic pet vet to be put down...he died peacefully....I was only 7 at the time.....my whole family was very sad.

You seem like a very concerned owner, and i applaud your efforts at caring so much about your little friend. I'm very sorry, and my heart soars out to you.
