change in cigarette laws???????

why is the government making cigarette company's put bigger warning labels on packs of cigarettes? Why are the making tobacco companies to quit making flavored cigarettes? Why don't they just make it illegal all together and then they can spend billions of dollars to try and fight it like the war on drugs?

I know they said, it's to try to stop kids from smoking. But by making the warning labels bigger is a joke. They could make them in a black box with a skull and cross bones on them and people would still smoke. Why don't they make alcohol companies stop from making flavored drinks like absolute citron, peach, pear, and etc. etc.?

Update:

I don't smoke and I don't care that people do. Trust me your breathing in more harmful things then second hand smoke. So, I guess alcohol companies don't target underage kids either? At least smoking never caused anyone to crash their car and kill a family.

If they were to sell cigarettes in a black box with a skull and crossbones on it smokers would be lined up around the block to get their hands on them. But, seriously as a non smoker I have as much right to not breathe in your second hand smoke as the smoker next to me has to light up I guess. But, if they make smoking illegal are smokehouses going to start popping up all over the place like the speakeasies did in the prohibition era? In our society you just can't take away our vices as we as a society have proven in the past. We will rebel and riot in the streets.

I just asked my BF this yesterday because I lay on the couch with him. and I was like " I dont even want to smoke cigarettes" he was confused at how randowm a statement that was and bc he was smoking not me....

I said everytime u get a urge I have to either get up and leave the room or cover my head in the blanket which doesnt smell any better lol

Then a few commercials recently...the one where they surgically remove a clogged artery of some swort, and the other where the child quits smoking .. Its all a way to manipulate how we feel about it.

Most people just don't care. Some are affected and so effected.

As for making it totally illegal I see a potential riot. I threw almost threw a pack out the window and he said i would shortly pollow that pack out the car window haha so theyre would be big problems and they know that so they start where prevention from others starting will work with labels that make you feel a certain way on an issue and they know the people who wont quit will just laugh at it.

P.s lets talk about how jersey wants to legalize marajuana

You need to understand that gas is a fossil fuel and we're starting to run out. Prices will continue to rise until we switch over to something else. Yes, it sucks, but driving is a privilege, not a requirement. If you don't like it, go to college to get more money, move closer, stop driving, or shut up and stop complaining. As for cigarettes, they've seen many tax increases over the years which pay for things like roads and education. Stations do not make more off cigarettes than gas, that's such a ridiculous statement; only about 15% of the population smokes ($5/pack), while almost all adults drive ($30+/tank).

I totally agree no matter how hard they try to discourage smoking it's not going to stop it. People enjoy their habits and just because the warning label gets bigger they arent going to give up their habits. I think the main reason for the restrictions of the tobacco companies is not necessarily because of just the kids that are starting to smoke underaged, because about the same percentage drink aswell, but that none smokers are pushing for a cleaner enviroment ( absence of second hand smoke) around them which is pressuring the government, and drinking doesnt necessarily affect other people around them unless they get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Source(s): Family Members that smoke. When approached about the warning label their response is," Well I'll get to Heaven Faster".

One reason cigarettes are getting more flack then alcohol is it has a bigger environmental effect (AKA second hand smoke). Being someone who has allergies to tobacco smoke, the resent changes in laws banning smoking in pubic places have most likely saved me of drooping dead from an attack some time ago. When you drink the persons next to you liver dose not melt along with yours.

Deaths from Smoking: 440,000 annual deaths each year are smoking-associated (CDC) taken from : http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/s/smoking/deaths.htm

Alcohol abuse kills some 75,000 Americans each year and shortens the lives of these people by an average of 30 years, a U.S. government study suggested Thursday. taken from : http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6089353/

according to these figures that I found ( which both include death to people not smoking or drinking... innocent bystanders ) alcohol kills more. So, you have a valid point!

Do you want nicotine fiends to start rioting, and burning down grocery stores?

    That's how alcohol became legal.
