How to heal an infected cartilage piercing?
i pierced my own cartilage about a month ago, and it was all sterilized. i recently took out the earring because i noticed there was puss. the puss stopped coming out but now when i touch the place where its pierced it feels like a small ball ( which is really a bump ) there. i have been putting neosporin on it to see if it would help for about 3 days now. i cant really tell a difference. any ideas, help, or advice to make if heal and or go away?
how do i drain the pus out of it??
and its a medium sized bump on the back and a small bump on the front of the piercing

What color puss? If was clear/white/a light yellow, then that's good. If it was like green and crap then that means it was infected, but that doesn't mean you have to take it out.
Okay, about the bump thing. Are you talking about Inside your ear there is a bump thing, or outside of your ear on the skin there is a bubble thing there? If it's on the outside use sea salt soaks and stop using the neosporin.

Where's the bump? If it's on the back it may be a keloid, which is caused by trauma to the cartilage during the piercing process. Either way, you should lance it, or find another such method of draining the pus out, and then clean it with a mix of 1/2 water 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and put Neosporin on it.

Petroleum jelly-based treatments are counter-indicated. Stop using Neosporin. The petroleum jelly seals the opening with a waterproof (though medicated) plug, encouraging the infection's pus to harden into a kernel which will remain for years.
Wash it with an antibacterial soap. Treat it several times a day with sterile saline on a fresh cotton swab. If the infection reaches the surface again, sterilize a needle and lance it to release the pus.

neosporin is not for puncture wounds. says so right on the tube. it suffocates the wound and traps in dirt, germs and bacteria. go to safepiercing.org and follow their aftercare instructions. should clear up in a few daysf
