Why do people on this site refer to "rebooting", when they actually mean reinstalling/ restore factory setting?

Update:

Apotheosis001, but they don`t! you have to work it out.

John S, I`ve seen it so many times as you can see from other answers, I`m not going to search for examples.

Gizzo, obviously, the question I`m asking is why?

I`m over 60 years of age, only had a computer for a short time, if i can find the correct terminology, anyone can.

Update 2:

Frank N. Stein, agree entirely.

Update 3:

sewrobb, I do ask, especially the ones with a one line question, no detail, they think people are clairvoyant.

My question was rhetorical by the way.

Because 99% of the time they think that reinstalling and restoring is rebooting because you usually have to reboot to rewrite the files.

You might as well ask that when they want help, why don't they write a question properly instead of them thinking the rest of us are mind readers and clairvoyants into the bargain.

As for the appalling spelling and the text speak, don't even get me started on that one!

Because they're not knowledgeable about the subject and don't know the correct terminology, maybe? It's not a crime, you know.

Are you actually referring to people who post questions, or those who answer them?

I mean, people wouldn't ask the question in the first place if they already knew about the subject, and it's easy to correct them when posting your answer.

"if i can find the correct terminology, anyone can" - so you can generalise about the entire human race based entirely on your own experience? OK.

This would simply be a case of people using incorrect terminology.

[edit] --- Why? It's because most of them claim to know more than they actually know. You'd be surprised how many 13yo's email me with abusive comments trying to discredit me based on what little knowledge they have.

You'll find that most of the people who use incorrect terminology are beginners trying to get points. What they do is copy other peoples answers, re-word them a bit and then post them as their own. This is how they end up using in-correct terminology - because they don't actually understand what they are saying.

With any answer you get, make sure you research what they are suggesting.

I've seen downloaded when they mean to install or reinstall as well.

Not everyone knows all the correct computer terminology.

Because their computers instantly go to MySpace/Facebook and they never do any research at all......ever. If I had the internet when I was growing up, I'd be working for NASA right now.

    Example?

Doesn't matter what a person refers it to as long as they explain in detail what it is they are asking.

it is quite amazing that people do have their nomenclature confused.

    reboot

    restore

    reformat

    reinstall

no one takes basic computer class , which is free on line . If they know how to google.

rebooting means restart because you boot up.
