Why do people like rap?

I'll tell you why, well for me atleast.

First off, let me tell you I'm not a fan of all this "new" rap AKA mainstream with Lil Wayne/T Pain/Souljah Boy/etc. It's dumb, you're right these rappers have no talent.

For me, and the rap I like, it's really nice to bump in the car, or in the Ipod before going a party or something to get your confidence up (you may not understand what I mean, but it gets your adrenaline pumping and you start to feel confident).

Some of the older rappers (I'll use Tupac as an example) truly have a talent with words, there lyrics are very powerful and some people relate to these lyrics.

Also, some of the beats and melodics are very catchy and can get you riled up or just feeling energized, it's nice.

I think you should listen to more rap and a variety of it untill you see it differently. Even if you don't ever develop a liking for it. You will discover there is a lot of talent in it. It is not my choice for music either but make no mistake, I hear the talent in it. Some of it is very intricate and complex, wether it is to your liking or not. I have noticed that most rock and pop is also about women, drugs, money and violence, it's just presented a little differentially. In fact if you watch many operas or classic plays you will find the same. It is the human experience expressed in many different ways.

I like Rap because I know it has potential, it is in a rut at the moment, at least mainstream rap, but it is possible it can bounce back. I agree with the stereotype about the lyrics and the talent level you just have to find talented artists that suit your tastes, it is out there you just have to look hard. Good luck.

Everyone has different reasons why they like rap. To me Rap music is best because it helps me remember the good times. Not all rap is about drugs and violence. Rap can tell a story about there life if u listen to what they are saying.

It sounds nice and sometimes it's nice to dance to.

I'm sure if I threw you in a studio, you couldn't make a successful rap song. Besides, only an idiot would generalize rap like that. I can name a rock song (POPULAR songs) with that content!!

I like rap because its interesting, it talks about the rapper's life or sometimes people like it for the party songs that sound good

well it gets people moving for one thing and the beat is really good on some raps. some people say rap is not music but i think rap is pretty good but sometimes i think people should cut down on too much rapping.
