A couple of things: Amalgam fillings are not comprised of 50% mercury. The mercury is only present before the filling is mixed, which happens before the filling is put into your mouth. How many people for how many years got silver fillings? And how many of us have died because of fillings? Don't you think this world would be a lot less crowded if silver fillings killed people? Secondly, it has been proven that poor oral hygiene can lead to heart disease. I am not insinuating this is what is wrong with your heart in any way, I'm just setting the facts straight that were given by the other people who answered. Amalgam (silver) fillings are perfectly safe. The people who funded the research trying to prove they were unsafe are the people who get rich off of the manufacturing of composite(white) fillings. Your dentist would not advise you to do something harmful, especially considering the fact that he/she would make more money if you opted for white, as they cost more and last half as long as silver. A silver filling can be expected to last for up to 30 years, while white fillings have a lifespan of up to only 15 years. Good luck.

A silver filling is made of dental amalgam, am mixture of metals including mercury, silver, copper and tin. This procedure is absolutely safe for you. As a patient with mechanical heart valves it is important to maintain good standards of dental and periodontal (gum) health. Follow the doctor's advice - silver amalgam fillings last longer than white ones and the scientific evidence proves that they are safe. Ignore the scaremongering about mercury! The American Dental Association found amalgam to be a safe material.

ur decaying teeth can cause more heart problems than silver amalgam fillings... If decay reaches blood supply and if u develop septicemia then it may lead to more dangerous condition called as rheumatic heart disease... So to prevent it you should go for silver fillings and get treated asap... If the decay is on the facial or lingual side then it can be filled with composite or glass ionomer....

silver fillings do contain mercury and the debate still continues on the safety of mercury in fillings. Nowadays instead of silver fillings the dentists do glass ionomer fillings and composite resin fillings, they dont contain mercury.you can get it done , but since u say many of your teeeth are infected might need more than a filling like tretments such as rootcanal therapy.take your dentists advice, all the best

Don't listen to anything TEJA has said. The silver fillings used at the dentist are only silver in COLOUR. They are comprised of 50% mercury one of the most toxic substances on earth and you should not be putting this in your teeth. Mercury leaches out and can affect any organ in the body not just the heart.
