Should I put horse shoes on or not...?
I am just buying a horse and it is just coming out of recovering from a cracked hoof...It has been well looked after and looks good but the place where I will be boarding - the owner does the hoofs but doesn't do shoes. Not of his horses ever have shoes. Then I read that you shouldn't put shoes on a cracked hoof (that is what may of caused the crack in the first place) the people I know say put shoes on her if there is still a bit of a crack, but wouldn't that make it worse? Also how much is safe enought o ride her without causeing the crack again? I haven't owned a horse in years and just not sure what direction to take

I had a horse that cracked a hoof badly, just a old pasture horse. The ferrier put egg shoes on him until it healed. No shoes if you are not doing a lot of riding on pavement. Use a hoof supplement in his food, that will help, like bioten.

Shoes are not natural. I wouldn't Unless you are running in the show circuit where they may require you to shoe your horse. But if not, why do to him what caused him to crack his hoof to begin with?

I wouldn't ride him until his hoof is uncracked cuz you can make it worse. And shoes prevent that from happeneing b/c you have to be careful on what type of surface you ride them on w/o shoes.
we put shoes on our horses, its healthy for their hoofs
