Books about wilderness?

I'm looking for a book about people getting stranded/and/or surviving in the wilderness.

When i was younger (im 18 now) i read the hatchet and my side of the mountain, i really enjoyed those but am looking for something a bit more mature.

Any suggestions? ( i already read "into the wild")

The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell is about a young native girl left on an island as the last one of her tribe and her survival alone for years. Inspired by a true case.

The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne is a classic adventure story of a group of people who crash land on a deserted island and use their respective skills to build a life there. Unrealistic, but amusing.

The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs (author of the Tarzan books) is a sci-fi novel about a submarine stranded on a strange island where dinosaurs and Neanderthals roam. A fun read.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding is the classic novel of a bunch of schoolboys on a deserted island and their gradual descent into savagery.

Source(s): These are my favorite "survival in the wild" books.

Westerns!! All about getting lost in the wilderness. There are romantic ones, action packed ones, historical ones. If you like an easy going narrative you will like Louis Lamore. If you like romance and a little action try some of Zane Grey's books or Cormac McCarhty. But in most any western there is always the element of nature playing a major role. Many are stories of survival in the wilderness and whether it is romance, action, or drama i guarantee you can find a western author you like. I got into the genre about 3 years ago and I have been hooked ever since. And yes Hatchet was a favorite of mine in middle school as well I picked up a copy the other day at the salvation army store haha.

I continually do and that i'm a CCWP holder, nationwide parks in hassle-free terms enable firearms to individuals that are. i'm additionally a hunter so maximum of my journeys are surrounded by way of that interest. motor vehicle camping available's no decrease as to what you are able to hold so a 12 gauge loaded with turkey plenty, and 00 greenback is a huge all around camp gadget for looking and or critter protection. you nevertheless prefer an factor arm in some locals because of the fact the conventional threat is two legged and a visual protection is the suited deterrent. As for critter protection the suited for submit to isn't a shot gun positioned pepper spray, a minimum of that's what archives say and what has worked for me and what may be your in hassle-free terms criminal determination. With young ones in camp it is a perplexing call to maintain a loaded shotgun laying around because of the fact of this I choose the pepper spray over the shotgun. My open carry sidearm of determination is a Ruger Blackhawk 357 magazine whilst motor vehicle camping out, and my ccw is a Beretta hurricane 9mm. which I additionally carry back packing. submit to have an interest in smells and that they have found out that campers leave nutrition out so the only thank you to maintain bears away are to maintain a sparkling camp and have a competent canines, no longer some little basket case yet a competent sized lab or german shepherd. 2 legged critters hate canines to boot.
