What's a good way to celebrate a baby's first birthday near Halloween? Ideas?

My daughter was born a few days before Halloween, and we're debating doing a regluar baby's-first-birthday-party, or doing a Halloween party, where everyone comes dressed up. Our family is all very close, so we thought about doing a theme where each family picks a theme and comes as it. That way she could be Dorothy or Glinda, and my husband and my son the scarecrow, or the tin man... you get the idea. What do you think about this? Any other ideas? We want it to be fun - for everyone. I know my daughter will love it no matter what, since she is so young.

This is strictly my opinion but your daughters birthday is about HER and I would completely seperate it from halloween. My son was born 4 days after christmas and I woudl never combine the 2. My daughter was born ON my bday but she always has her own bday party. In my opinion every child shoudl have their own party that is completely about them.

I think a Halloween themed party would be super fun! I do however think it would be easier for everyone to come as they choose and not all have to stick to a theme. But for you and your family go for it!!!

My girlfriends daughters birthday is near Halloween and she does a costume party every year which we always look forward to. Lots of Luck

i LOVE the idea of a costume party, would make for awesome first birthday party pictures for your child to look back on. a themed costume party might be a bit difficult for everyone to stay with. Really i tried to plan my son's first birthday around what would be not only enjoyable but what would make for great photos to look back on of his big day.

if you decide not to go with a halloween costume theme, for whatever reason, you could always do something fall themed like a pumpkin patch (everyone gets a pumpkin they picked as their party favor plus little kids love going anyplace where they can run around), apple picking, hay rides. there's just so many awesome things you can do in the fall that make for great memories and great photos!

good luck and enjoy the big day!

I think it would be fun to dress up! but the birthday girl might be frightened...maybe keep it a certain dress up theme, but keep dressing up optional!
