Lebanon: Fairuz or Majida El Roumi. Which of the two do you think is Lebanon's greatest female performer?
I know some think that there is no comparison. Maybe it's because I'm younger, but I personally favour Majida.
If none of the above, who do you think is Lebanon's greatest female vocalist?

The question cannot be asked because the lifetime span is not the same, Majida al Roumi has some songs, and a great voice, but did not make history or did not have the chance to do so
But Fairouz , this is a Diva, we are talking about a 50 years career She had the chance to work with the rahbanis, their theater is our Heritage, she was the first to spread Lebanese songs in the World, she broke frank sinatra's ticket selling record in London, and her tickets in Las Vegas cost 5 times more than those of NSYNC 2 months before, this woman sang LEBANON and entered our consciousness, the best writers gave her songs, she accepted to sing all arab causes, and until now no songs match hers, she was the first to sing in the united beirut in 1994, her voice assemble LEBANESE from every religion in a church on the Great Friday, and her songs, even the shortest and the simplest , are heavily built.
She represented the arab world in the memory of the Geneva treaty , she received awards from all arab nations, and all her songs "have meaning"

both. majida keeps alive very high standards and international recognition for lebanese music and that is an incredible luck for this country. while fairouz had the chance to be discovered and sustained by giants composers like halim el roumi and the rahbani brothers, majida was born in the house of one. unfortunately her father died too early and what could come out of their collaboration was lost for both majida and melomaniacs. fairouz's career unfolded at a time propice for creation and establishing new foundations in lebanese art, while majida had to perform during hursh circumstances for artists in this country. if i have something to ''reproach'' to them would be that majida put a hold on her career exactly when she reached the peak of her vocal capabilities and had enough experience to do even better, then she had so many years of not releasing anything new; while fairouz can at some point become too monotonous. though, this monotony beween the clouds is part of the longevity of her music. they both have crystal clear and velvety voices. majida has a great understanding of the verb and wonderful melismas, while fairouz has such a soothing voice. on the other hand one is soprano, the other mezzosoprano and their songs are quite different. they are both iconic figures for all arabs.

Fairouz voice is amazing. I like her so much
She IS Lebanon
But, of course, as new and young, Majida has a nice voice, but let's see if after 20 years she'll stay on top as now.
That's what Fairouz has, lebanese pple will be talking abt her after 40 years or even more. She's a legend.

Are you serious...Fairouz of course! I would compare like from back in the day Saba7 maybe to Fairouz but not Majida.
Fairouz is what literally represents Lebanon :D She is a living legend and I adore her, I actually got to meet her a few years back here at the Fox Theater after a show!
