Ca you hook a surround sound up to a tv without a dvd player?
I bought a surround sound about a month ago. It works perfectly with my dvd player, but I want to use the surround sound just with my tv when I watch cable. Is it possible? If so how

TV today only provide you an optical audio output. This is a digital signal that has to be decoded by a receiver, home theater in a box with an optical audio input or a sound bar. Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them or upgrading, when one item fails you will have to replace the whole system. Connect an optical audio cable from the tv and the other end to your sound system. Your tv owners manual or your sound system will also provide you the proper instruction for connection. Hope this will help you out.

Your tv has an audio output jack called RCA jacks color coded in Red and White, connect an RCA jack to them and hook them up to your surround sound system Aux. input. When playing the tv select the aux source on your surround sound to hear the sound. Select the proper surround sound selector to say either Dolby Surround or DTS if available on your system. The show on tv must have the dolby encoded sound for you to get the surround sound, not all programs are in the surround sound mode.
