How do i keep my puppy asleep at night?

So yesterday i just got a 2 month old German Sheppard, lab mix. He's a really good dog but he had a hard time staying asleep , is that normal? And what can i do to fix it?

He's 2 months old! He needs to be taken out to pee every 2 - 3 hours at night. People usually set their alarm clocks to take the puppy out before he starts whining in the crate.

A full dog is a happy dog, feed him 4 times a day to start you can reduce to 3 times a day at 3 months old, give his last feeding as late as possible

take him out a few time before you go to bed,a full puppy is a sleepy puppy

but he is 2 months old,he will need to potty 2 or 3 times a nite,I would remove the water about 30 minutes after he eats as long as you know he had drank some,

but as he gets older and can hold his pee longer,he'll wake less often

If he was howling and restless that's normal if he's just been taken out of his home with his family. Make sure his bedding is soft and is not irritating his fur, make sure there are toys for him to play with and access to a water bowl, try wrapping a small alarm clock in fabric or cushions (turn the alarm off) And put in his bed. I have heard from somewhere that this reminds them of a heartbeat from there brothers and sisters and helps them not to feel alone. Make sure he is not in a room that is too hot or cold or very bright or dark.

If he does howl, try not to go to him all of the time or to scold him. He will learn soon enough.

They need to be taken out to pee ever 2 1/2 - 3 hours. If you do that and he still wont stay asleep try laying down with him and petting him until he falls asleep

I am guessing he whines at night then? At the moment your pup thinks that crying and barking gets them out or attention, which it does, which in turn means they can dictate when you get up and of course they want you with them your pup loves you!

So you have to ignore which is a process call extinction. What that means is you will have to endure an extinction burst (behaviour will get worse before it gets better) so the pup will be whining pretty loudly for a night or two before it goes away. This will also show you some tips to make him feel more secure at night.

if the puppy is being separated from mom and his siblings for the time, you can try buying an old clock that ticks and putting it near where he sleeps. My dad swears up and down that the sound will remind him of the sound of his moms heartbeat and help soothe him.

Try putting him in his crate with a stinky pair of socks.
