Do you understand the new commercial for Mobil concerning?
carbon dioxide in natural gas?
It bothers me that the person states that natural gas has carbon dioxide in it and that their new technology is able to remove that so that it burns cleaner. What the heck?! The carbon dioxide produced when natural gas burns has very little to do with any carbon dioxide trapped in the natural gas and everything to do with burning a hydrocarbon in the presence of oxygen.
So, either correct me if I am wrong or explain to me why they are creating a new facility/process to reduce the creation of carbon dioxide as a byproduct of burning natural gas, and yet don't take the 2 seconds needed to explain that. Do they think we are that dumb and can't handle the truth? I don't expect every commercial to be a 30 second chemistry lab, but the way this is handled is very weird for someone claiming to be so smart as to have any impact on actually reducing the levels of carbon dioxide.

I don't know which commercial you're talking about exactly, but it does sound like typical Big Energy greenwashing.
Exxon Mobil has the worst environmental record out of all of the oil companies out there though, so I'm not surprised. They're the wealthiest company in the entire world, yet won't throw a cent into alternative energy research until they can feel sure which new technology will dominate.

all sources of natural gas from the earth contain many different gases, including CO2. refinery gases produced in the distillation of crude oil also create natural gas along with other gases, inlcuding CO2. third, all facilities that handle natural gas or oil use combustion processes to create the various oil products and a by product of all these processes is CO2. CO2 is a useable material industrially and is often spearated, cleaned and sold to other companies for use in their processes of manufacturing, rather than bering vented to the atmosphere. so, exxon/mobil is quote "being green" by building a plant to make and sell CO2.
