FIFA Confederations Cup -?
How do they decide who moves forward in the tournament? Is it based on points scored, etc?
Can anyone explain that to me or send me a link of the explanation?
Is it the same for the world cup?
Thanks

First tiebreaker is points scored
Second tiebreaker is goal difference
Third tiebreaker is goals scored
Fourth tiebreaker is results between individual teams
Fifith tiebreaker is goal difference from matches involving the teams concerned
Sixth tiebreaker is goals scored in matches between the teams concerned
Seventh tiebreaker is a draw ing of lots by the FIFA organising committee
It is going to be exactly the same system at the 2010 World Cup too.

Well..
There are 2 groups of 4 teams each.
The group winners and the 2nd placed team progress to the semi-finals.
If two teams are tied on points, the team with the better goal difference will progress. If the goal difference is the same, the team who has scored more goals will progress.
In the case of USA and Italy, USA has scored 1 more goal then Italy. So USA progressed to the semi finals.

the FIFA Confederations Cup features 8 teams & they were drawn into 2 groups of 4 teams each. each team plays each other once in their own group & the top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals.
the team which has more points will be placed higher in the group standings. if two or more teams are level on points, the first tie breaker will be the goal difference & if the goal difference is the same, the next tie breaker will be goals scored. the team which scored more goals will be placed higher in the standings.
the semi-finals, 3rd place & the final match will be played as an one-off match with the possibility of 30 minutes of extra time & penalties if the scores are level.

1st- Overall Record
2nd- Point Differential
3rd- Total Goals
thats why the US advanced instead of Italy or Egypt, we were all 1-2 but we had 6 total goals, the 3rd tiebreaker
