Im guessing what you mean by "runescape and WoW" is medeival fantasy games? If not Eve is good... other then that Guild Wars is also a good game... you just have to buy the game, no monthly fee!

Look at http://mmohut.com/ for a directory of free MMOs and MMORPGs. If you'd prefer to see a massive 'list' with reviews / exp rate / playerbase and such check out http://mmohut.com/gamelist
I use that site to find new games to play / read up on ones I heard about. Good resource.

go on battleon.com from there you go on to adventure quest or dragon fable there are both pretty fun rpgs
