When baby birds have fledged (feathered and left the nest) they drink water. The parents have no way to bring them water. They get moisture from what they eat. Do not attempt to give nestlings anything to drink, you'll drown them.

    Do Baby Birds Need Water

Baby birds don't drink any liquid. Until they are able to fly to a water source and drink on their own, their parents provide the food, which contains all the liquid that they need.

Forcing a baby bird to drink water, often results in death by drowning when inhaled into the respiratory system.

If you have a baby bird in your possession, you need to return it to it's parents immediately. They are always the BEST option. Humans are the WORST option.

If the bird is bald, down-covered or partially feathered, it's a nestling and belongs in it's nest.

If the bird is fully feathered, it's a fledgling, and it belongs on the ground in the same are where it was found - preferably under a small bush or in other natural plant cover.

Injured birds, and nestlings that cannot be returned to their nest should be brought to a wildlife rehabilitator. There are thousands located all over the world. They are trained, equipped, and licensed to house, treat and care for injured, sick and orphaned wild birds and other animals. Services are typically FREE to the public.

Please keep in mind that in many countries it's illegal to possess native wild birds. In North America they are protected by federal and international wildlife and migratory bird laws. In the US, no one is permitted to keep any native wild bird as a pet. Only licensed rehabbers, zoos, and other wildlife workers are permitted to house or care for them.
