As Lee already pointed out, these negatives can be easily scanned and transferred to CD in JPEG for you to keep on your computer, adjust in Photoshop or upload to the internet and even email to relatives.
I am assuming that they are in 35mm and that you have kept them in good condition?. Any camera/printing store can transfer them for you, or you can buy a film scanner for pretty cheap these days. Seeing as you have quite a number to scan you may be better off buying a film scanner such as these..

Scanning your negatives and then selling it on again of you are no longer shooting film.
It would be a shame to throw these images away, you could end up regretting it in a few years time.

"IF" the pictures are of any value, you may want to have the negatives scanned before trashing the negatives. In order to give a better answer I need more information. What are the pictures of, what size is the negative, what quality is the negative?
Depending on the subject, there is sometimes a market for old pictures.

i does no longer throw them away. I constantly positioned all of my pictures on disk, then I take the detrimental and positioned it in a hearth secure field or the protection deposit field. That way purely in case some element happens, you will constantly have a duplicate. however in case you do use a digital, make Cd's of the pictures additionally, and positioned those in there to boot. What if something happened and you misplaced each and every thing in a hearth or flood, or another disaster, you will nonetheless have them in the protection deposit field.
