Surfboard Art (removing all the wax)?

My bro is really artistic and I am getting him some paint pens for his birthday because he has been wanting to draw on our boards since we both have blanks. My question is, is there any safe cleaner to use to really get all the wax off, and I dont mean just waiting for it to melt in the sun. It really has to be clean for this to work well. Ive heard paint thinner and other suggestions, but that seems a little rough especially on a fiber glass board. Thanks for any help.

Well removing wax is easy. The first thing that you should do is let the board sit in the sun for a few minutes too let the wax heat up. Then use a wax comb or old credit card to scrape off all of the wax. There will be some remaining wax, and this is where the wax remover comes in. Go to any surf shop and ask for some wax remover. Dont use any of that paint thinner stuff. Just get some wax remover. Follow the directions on it and all of your wax will come off. Its that simple. Good luck.

Take a regular clothing iron and put a piece of trash fabric (old t-shirt, thin towle, paper towle, etc.) between the iron and the board bag. Iron like this with moderate heat (obviously not too hot as to burn the fabric but the more heat the better). As the iron heats the wax on the bag, it will wick into the trach fabric you covered the iron with. Keep changing out the trash piece of fabric as more and more wax soaks into it. Keep in mind that whatever fabric you put between the bag and the iron will be completely ruined so don't use your moms new table cloth or anything like that. Also make sure you don't do this on carpet or anything nice as some of the wax might transfer to whatever you're ironing on. If you do this over and over, most of the wax will come right out.

Sticky bumps makes this cleanser in a bottle for like $5. But if it's a blank, why does it have wax on it?

Go to your nearest surf shop and get wax remover. Its acetone and it takes it all of after you scrape all the wax off with a wax comb. Don't spray it or paint pen it without using acetone first. It will mess up your artwork, make it harder to draw and it will take the graphics off.

    Here's a wax comb:

Just use Mineral Spirits...Get a jug from your local hard-ware store.
