After four years of photography I have finally begun to realize that I can start to understand what it is really about. I am a freelance photojournalist and will eventually work internationally. As of last week I will not longer use any of my previous work in a portfolio. I have turned over a new page as it were, and now have exactly 7 new images to use, two of which are solid enough for a portfolio. When I get forty just like those two I will look for a job. Wish me luck.

  • Brand New Bronica EC?

Anybody have any idea what this camera would be worth? It comes with Nikkor 75 f/2.8 and all the parts it needs to work. Assuming its in perfect working order. It has quite literally never been taken out of the box.

  • New disc brake and new fork question?

    I have two questionsL

    1) I just installed a set of avid juicy ultimates on my bike and when I spin the wheel I am getting some audible rub from the rotor on the brake pad, is this ok for new brakes? Its really not inhibiting the wheel noticeably, and I wouldnt classify it as drag. My guess is that the pads will wear down a bit after a while and this will stop? Also, I have to pull the levers almost all the way to the handle bar to get a full stop and even then the front brake will slip a little, does this mean I need to bleed the lines?

    2) Just some advice, wondering what the best fork is I can get for $200. I am just replacing the Gilla RST 100mm on my Trek 4300. Do I have to get another 100mm fork or can I get one with 120mm which it seems most forks are, if not biggger. Will it greatly affect the geometry of the bike? Thanks for any help.

  • Calculate Weight On Pluto?

Question says it. Assuming weight is 300lbs. I did mass = 300/9.8 = 30.6 then weight on pluto = 30.6/.58 = 52lbs. I think this is wrong though. It should be about 20lbs.

  • Surfing in Barbados, East Coast?

Going on a trip to Barbados in March, and just wanted to ask the advice of anyone who has been there. Its a family thing and they rented a house where they said they had heard the good surfing was since my brother and I like to surf. Anyway it turns out the house is right near Soup Bowl which is not just a great surfing place, its a really advanced surfing place with lots of coral and some pretty heavy waves when it kicks up. I know Barbados is pretty small and its not hard to drive to get to other surfing locations, but for a beginner to intermediate surfer (more towards intermediate) does anyone know if there are other locations close by where I am not likely to get in the way of serious surfers? Any help would be great, thanks!

  • Bag Gloves or Training Gloves?

Sorry if this seems like a real amateur question, but is their a downside to only having one kind of glove. Ive been practicing Muay Thai now for a few months (starting in on month 4) and have by prescription of the instructor using bag gloves which are very light, maybe 8 ounces or less and very compact, easy to make a tight fist with (to be exact raja bag gloves). However, one of the more advance Thai students recently bought a pair of I believe they were 12 ounce gloves which to me look like training gloves. They have more padding than bag gloves, but a lot less than the ones they use for sparing which are huge. So what is better to use for all around practice, both heavy bag and pad work? I dont mind the bag gloves for the bag obviously, but for pad work as I learn to punch harder have really started to wear my knuckles down. Would it be a good idea to get the training gloves? I happened to try them one day because I forgot mine, and they felt real nice. I just dont want my instructor to disapprove of me getting them (he speaks no english so asking him is a chore). Any help or insight appreciated.

  • Is this a good heavy bag?

    http://www.ringside.com/Ringside-Leather-Heavybag-...

Just for home use, I am about 175lb at 5'11" But not a super hard hitter as my wrists are pretty slim. I want some swing in the bag. I like this one because its soft filled for low impact, and it seems to be a pretty good size or at least a pretty standard size.

  • Good exercises to build neck strength?

What are some good exercises to build upper shoulder and neck strength to help protect myself from injury when taking head shots. I have recently started doing Muay Thai over the last few months and have just been getting into sparring. I am in Thailand, and the language barrier is making this question kind of difficult. Any help appreciated. Not to sound like a jerk, but please only answer this if you are qualified or have heard proper technique from your instructor and can relate it accurately. If not, let me know that you aren't sure. I don't want to end up doing the wrong thing. Thanks for any help.

  • Chiropractor in Bangkok, Thailand?

So I am in Bangkok for a semester, and between Muay Thai practice, hiking around and every day abuse I need a chiropractor. Does anyone know of a good place to go in Bangkok? If they speak some English all the better, I do not want to explain symptoms in Thai. I am looking for quality rather than being able to save a penny. I tried emailing and calling a few places with no luck. Any help appreciated, specific info is good since I am not too familiar with Bangkok yet. Thanks!

  • Going surfing in bali?

    Hey all,

So I am taking a semester in Thailand at the moment, but since my exams all finish at the beginning of December I have a whole month to do whatever. My plan is to fly to Bali and spend a week or two there before I head home. I am not looking for any heavy waves or anything just something beginner to intermediate fun waves, like stomach to head high about that I can short board or longboard. I have come across a place called Kuta which seems to have what I want. So is this a good place to go, some where better? And also can anyone recommend a good place to stay thats close to good surfing that isnt expensive. Thanks!

  • Girls Wetstuits Brands?

My gf is interested in buying a wetsuit and I was just looking for some personal opinions on brands. I own an O'neill and love it and assume they would also make great womens suits, but is there a chance that maybe Roxy is better for girls? Or another brand? I dont need a lot of details, but was just wondering if anyone has any specific experiences. Thanks.

  • Surfing Higgins Beach (ME)?

I read on surfline.com that surfing is prohibited (I believe they used the word blackballed) from 10am to 5pm anyone know anything about this. I am going up to Maine for our yearly family trip and was hoping to do some surfing on the way up since we stay North of Portland. Anyway around it? It seems to have the best waves from what I can tell looking at MSW and surfline.com, thanks.

  • Surfboard Art (removing all the wax)?

My bro is really artistic and I am getting him some paint pens for his birthday because he has been wanting to draw on our boards since we both have blanks. My question is, is there any safe cleaner to use to really get all the wax off, and I dont mean just waiting for it to melt in the sun. It really has to be clean for this to work well. Ive heard paint thinner and other suggestions, but that seems a little rough especially on a fiber glass board. Thanks for any help.

  • Dell XPS 1530, blank screen w/ active cursor after login screen...?

    Hey everyone,

My knowledge is with macs, windows machines are basically alien to me. Anyway my brother has an XPS 1530 and I was installing Norton Antivirus on it when something from an older antivirus program pops up. I hit cancel on that window and then the computer freezes. I force shut it down, wait then reboot. I get as far as the login, type in the password and then the screen goes blank (backlit but just black) but with an active cursor. I can still eject CD's and move the cursor around, but no desktop comes up. Any help would be great.

  • Red blotch on skim after swimming in Florida?

My girlfriend and I went swimming in the ocean in Boca Raton FL. Now she has red blotches on her skin that look kind of like spread out bug bites. They sting and sort of pinch a little. I was thinking sea lice, but am not really sure. I also have a slight stinging pinching sensation, but only a few small red dots. They appeared almost immediately after getting out of the water.

  • What's Up With Canon These Days?

I have just gotten into photography seriously and bought my first DSLR a year and a half ago, and in that time Ive learned just about all I can of the tech aspects of photography, worked with my university newspaper for all of that time, done some small free lance jobs including a wedding and concerts and spend a lot of free time taking pictures. (obviously Im still learning though). I picked Canon because everyone recommended them and I liked how they preformed. But now I am considering a switch before it gets too expensive. It feels like with the introduction of all these 15mp point and shoots, and the rather disappointing 50D also with 15mp, still only 9 AF points, minimal weather sealing, no video, that Canon is just concentrated on the latest consumer wiz bang. Of course they do have the 5D mark II, but if you do not have 2700 to spend there are few nice mid range options like the Nikon D90, D200, D300. Not to mention Canon neglects weather sealing on its lower end bodies. I guess I am just feeling like Nikon offers a better range of Camera's and does not just push products out to get them on the shelves as Canon does lately. Nikon has a at least one DSLR body to match Canon's if not more. For those of you who have been around a while, is likely to change or do you think this is a trend likely to continue or get worse? Everyone I know seems to be clamoring for Canon to stop the mega pixel war and start putting in useful features. I would much rather have a 50D with 10mp, 11 AF points, better weather sealing. Heck they can even trash the 12800 ISO its pretty much unusable anyways.

  • Shoe size=surf shoe size?

Thanks for all the help getting this winter gear worked out so far. I have one last question, since I am going to try ordering from hansen surf since they do full refunds as long as you dont use it. How does shoe size translate into surf shoe size? I have a ten shoe should I go with that or go ones size down or up? (As a side question ive decided to go with the mutant 4/3 rather than the 5/4/3 for east coast fall and spring, is this a good decision? Or should I just go with the heavier one?)
