Where is the best place to live in Ireland 50 miles out of Dublin?
Secondly can anyone provide me details of a letting agency or have you a country house or a farmhouse available for a long term rental?
I want quiet but not so as I have to drive over 1 hour to a supermarket. Any answers please from Irish residents preferred thanks.
Sorry I meant the Republic of Ireland as I do not wish to live in the UK due to its insane government and bleak future. I am currently expat in North Africa.

There are supermarkets outside of Dublin, you know.
You might like to have a look at www.daft.ie to try and find properties to let. Outside of Dublin also.
Source(s): Live in the west of Ireland, 3 hours from Dublin, and there are 8 or 10 supermarkets within 10 miles in several directions. - bluebellLv 71 decade ago
Try www.daft.ie for lettings. Counties surrounding Dublin are Kildare, Louth, Meath and Wicklow. Click on a property, scroll down to the bottom of the page for an interactive map, where you can zoom in to get a better idea of proximity to nearby towns and villages.
One house I clicked on was described as being 4 miles from one town, 3 from another and 10 from a third. You'd have plenty of peace and quiet in a rural area between towns. Not many places in Ireland are over an hour from a supermarket. Even villages have at least one. People from countries where there are vast distances between towns find it intriguing that in Ireland, you can have a decent town here and another less than twenty miles down the road.
Some parts of Westmeath, Carlow, Laois, Monaghan, Cavan and Offaly are also within 50 miles of Dublin. Newry Co. Down is closer to 60

Newry county Down, 50 miles from Belfast less than 50 miles from Dublin, its a major town with everything you could want. Bars shops and nightclubs its a lovely town good people.
If you want to live in the Uk then go there, this is Ireland love! not the Uk or Britain.

well i dont know how far out from dublin it is, but maynooth might be a good idea. it is in north kildare and is just 45 mins on the train from dublin. i dont know it that well, its just where my cousins live. what i do know is that it has 4 or 5 supermarkets within the town and lots of other big shops. this may not suit you, as it may be too noisy, but there is nuim (national university of ireland maynooth) and st. patricks college for priests situated in the town too. st patricks college is very old and really nice and peaceful. lovely for long walka dn runs. maynooth has lots of housing estates, but there are also countryside areas outside maynooth like rathcoffey or lara. they are both quite close by but are still quiet and peaceful. it also has a girls school, a boys school, and a secondary school.
hope you like my advice!

I can't disagree with the idea of living in Ireland, as I spend a lot of time there but I have to disagree with your "Additional Details".
"I do not wish to live in the UK due to its insane government and bleak future."
Maybe the news hasn't reached you in North Africa, but the Irish government / economy is in a much worse state than anything in the UK.
"Ireland is suffering more than any other advanced economy from the global recession and Irish banks could be facing losses of about €35bn (£30bn), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said. "
And with the Taoiseach Brian Cowen and Finance Minister Brian Lenihan publicly falling out with each other on how to solve the finance issue the Irish government has it's own significant issues which impact the whole country.

Daft.ie is great for lettings and renting in Ireland,I recommend Galway as you have the option of either the city or the wild west beautiful country side of Connemara,Also its by the sea with great pubs and the best restaurants to rival any country.

We have a farmhouse going spare if you want it. Rodge and myself will move into one of the outhouses and you can have the run of Ballydung Manor.
That's if you're a woman of course. If you're a man ignore everything we've just said.
