Well, its not that you have BAD credit.. its just that you have no credit history. I am guessing that you are fairly young too since life itself produces credit scores.
Here are some basics that improve your score
1) Income: You need to demonstrate that you have a steady and stable income. This means that you have held a job for a while (the same job) and it can be reasonably expected that you will continue to do so.
2) Bills: You pay your bills promptly and within the grace period allowed. This means not just credit cards, but other reporting agences (which is getting to be quite large since utility companies, and even the DMV's now report to the 'big three' credit agencies.
3) You do not owe a lot: Someone who owes thousands of dollars on short term credit ( credit cards) but only clears $500 a week on the job is not going to get a great score.
4) Your total debt / income & asset ratio is not too high. This factors in other things such as home loans and car loans which are long term loans and will not be due for full payment for some time.
5) Your age: Younger means you have more potential but generally less earnings.. Older means the opposite..
6) Your dependents: If you are making $3k a month clear..thats great.. unless you have 10 kids to also support..
7) Been sued? Pending or possible judgements against you are not good things. THis includes the IRS and other friendly souls.
Those are some basics.. keep them in mind.
Meantime. if you can get a small loan.. bank it (do not spend it) and then pay it back promptly and according to the terms of the contract, that will help.. you will show assets (the money in the bank) and develop a good credit history (the loan and its payments).
good luck..

Depending on your use of the cards and future credit, it could take a year or two or if you mess up, even longer. There are too many variables at this point to give an estimate.

It takes time, you just have to make sure and pay credit card on time and never late. always try to pay extra on credit cards.. Credit Card report every month to the CB so every month your credit score will increase if you have have a good payment history... so the only thing you can do to have good credit is always pay on time and pay extra and NEVER pay late on anything that you make payments to and that are reported to the CB..
