33x12.50 or 33x10.50 on 15x7's on a 1993 chevy 1500 4x4?
I have a 1993 chevy 1500 4x4 reg. cab shortbed that has a older carberated 4.3l in it.
I like this truck a lot. It runs great, considering the truck has 220k miles on the body and 60k miles on the motor. Only problem is the tires are screwed and so are the lug's and rims are ugly stock and rusted. It is to the point that when I really give it gas the tires slip as if my clutch was slipping and I am scared to drive this truck in the rain.
I am getting my license in a month and have 3 vehicles already and this I want to be my beater/ wheeler. I have a brand new set of 4 white wagon wheels that I picked up for $125 which was a deal I couldn't pass up but didn't notice they were only 15x7's and I would like a good sized tire on these but not sure what to get.
Is it possible to get 33x12.5 bfg at's on these rims without problems?
I have heard it is possible but the center of the tread wears too quick and you have to mess with the t.pressure a lot.
Or should I go with 33x10.5's?
I live in NH so I know these will do better in the snow as skinnier the better. But will they look stupid? I can't find any pics on the net of 33x10.5's on my type of truck.
Also I plan on doing some playin in the mud and will these suck because they are too skinny?
Also what type of tire should I go with?
I have like $800 bucks so that is my budget.
I know bfg at's and mt's are in this price range but not sure which one's and I know other brands have tires for less than $200 a piece.
All in all I am basically asking these 2 questions.
1. Which tire width should I get? 33x12.5 or 33x10.5 on my 15x7 steelies
2. Which brand or model tires should I get?
Hope you guys can give me some of your thoughts because I have been thinking about this for a while and don't want to buy different rims nor lift it, but still want some decent sized tires on there that will be able to make my cheap truck a nice little wheeler.

I would go with the 33x10.5's for the reasons that you talked about concerning the center tread wearing out to soon. Go with the MT's the BFG are not all that good in the mud

what sized tires are on the truck now?
my recommendation is to go with 32/10.5. if your are running 373 gears then going to 33" tires will require changing to 411 gears to keep your motor in it's power rpm range. since you don't want to spend a lot of $ on your truck, you need to stay conservative on your tire size.
recommend the MT tire for looks and performance.
