I prefer Seagate for my Media Files..
I would use a Western Digital HD for my Office Files..
But..both are equally great HDs.

Best online backup companies, I'd say, are Mozy and ElephantDrive. They offer reliable services at a reasonable price.
Best external hard drive: ioSafe Solo (http://www.iosafe.com/3). These hard drives are waterproof and fireproof and the company offers exceptional data recovery services. They have a video on their website that shows the ioSafe being torched and dropped into a swimming pool, quite impressive. I've got an ioSafe Solo and am totally happy with it.
Good luck!

For online backup- take a look at Office Live Workspace. A lot of the competitors only give 2GB for free, but each Workspace comes with a free 5GB of storage space. It is online based with nothing to download so it works on Macs and PCs. Check it out!

If you need to synchronize data online and between pcs try Dropbox (2gb free)
if you just need storage (no auto backup feature) Skydrive offers 25gb free

A lot of external hard drives designed for backup include backup software such as Western Digital and Seagate - that's fine - but my preference has always been to buy a bog standard drive from Freecom or Toshiba and use free backup software such as GFI Home Backup

or Backup Maker
