Why does Andy Ritcher stand behind a podium on the Tonight Show, rather than sitting next to Conan O' Brien?

Andy and Conan are suppose to be good friends, yet Andy has to stand behind a podium for most of the Tonight Show. On Late Night with Conan, Andy sat next to Conan nightly. Is this payback for Andy leaving the show ? Just wondering.

No it's nostalgia, most "announcers" used to have their podiums "off stage" and were used as quirky sidekicks to bounce ridicule off of without interfering with host's "attention". So all they are doing is retro to the 1950's-60's, trying to be "chic".

It's just the format Conan and the people who produce the show like. Nothing against Andy leaving the show years ago.

Maybe its so that people see the show as the Tonight Show rather than the 'Late Night with Conan OBrien' show.

Andy used to sit next to Conan - different show, different set up.

They're using Andy in bits like one I think is call "Let Andy try it", so he's not always off camera.

No, not payback. Just the style they like best....and it works for them.
