My Internet speed keeps gradually slowing down. Im connected via wireless. I've unplugged the modem & router?

several times & the speed goes up for a little while then it slows down to the point of 4Mbps. I don't know if it's my PC or something equipment related.

Update:

I've done a scan of my system & there's no viruses.

Update 2:

In the power settings it's set on maximum performance but i dont see an option to turn it off. It says Low, medium & high power saving. I know Comcast is supposed to upgrade our speed sometime next month but we're currently on their best speed.

There are many possible reasons for that:

    - Malware: Run an antivirus/spyware scan.

    - ISP: Your ISP might be under strain for whatever reason. Nothing you can do but hope it gets fixed quickly.

    - Hackers: Maybe someone has got your wireless password. Perhaps it's time to change it.

    - Connection Quality: If the connection quality to the download is poor, then downloads will be slower than usual. Not much you can do.

    - Router overheating: This happens to me and I'm not sure why it lowers the speed but you can put your hand on the router and see if it's hot. If it's hotter than you think it should be then check if any vents are blocked and try to raise it high so it gets good air circulation.

If the problem persists for over a week then you should probably get a computer technician in to see what the problem is and fix it.

First run a speed test from a wired connection to ensure the problem is not with your isp

second look for sources of rf interference. cordless phones, nursery monitors wireless speakers etc and get them away form the router and pc.

third look for updated firmware for your router.

fourth look for updated drivers for the wireless adapter in your pc. also check the advanced settings and turn off any power saving options on the adapter

free up some spaces by deleting some unimportant files on your system. Try not to have a lot of parallel downloads and browsing simultaneously. use some programs like this one: http://huwatisdis.blogspot.com/2009/06/free-intern...

to test your internet speed and it can help improve your internet speed after speed testing
