For those good with car alarm install/removal...question...?
I bought a car and ended up dropping the alarms remote and it broke. I tried buying a replacement remote but the alarm just refuses to go into program/learn mode so the new remote is basically useless. I don't know what model the alarm is exactly but it is an Automate alarm from Directed Electronics. I was wonder, if I went out and bought a basic Viper alarm (also from Directed Electronics) would it be possible to just switch out the alarm brains and use the wires that are already installed from the previous alarm? Reason I ask is they're both from the same company just one is called Automate and the other Viper.

You need to take your car to a car audio installer (all of them install alarms as well) and have them program your new remote. Also, you can't just replace the 'brains' of the system, the entire setup would have to be removed. Not to worry though, the installer will be able to easily program the new remote for about $20.
