Safina, clealry over rated?

I mean come on. I knwo some Safina fans cant admit to it, but she most certainly isnt #1 material, and losing 6-1 6-0 in a grand slam semi further proves it. Forget Venus being so dominat on grass, a #1 doesnt lose this way,and finds ways to win, at least points/games. Just 6 winners but 16 unforced errors no aces, compared to Venus at 5 aces, 16 winners, and just 1 unforced. I mean hello?! Only due to Safinas great play in 2008 is she where she is now. She is top 10 at best, and slowly will fall as Jankovic did when she was given the top spot. The 2 best players out there, and who dont need to play 20-27 tournaments to keep their ranking is clearly Serena and Venus. Safina didnt even win a match against the top 8 at the Season Ending Championships last season. I put her behind Serena, Venus, Elena, and Kuznetsova, and even possibly a couple others. Enough said. Thoughts?

let me preface this by saying I am huge Safina fan and believe that she is an amazing player. but i don't think she deserves #1. I think #3 suits her well. I like Dementieva, but she hasn't made any GS finals lately and Safina has. Too bad Serena will now be defending points instead of gaining but you'll have that.

Safina probably already gave up even before the match started because she knew that Venus would have thrashed her. I guess she's already contented with reaching the semi finals on a surface which she isn't too fond of,compared to her last year's 3rd round finish.

Too bad ranking is based on how many points you rack up over the year which in turn depends on how dilligently you play tournaments and fare in Grand Slams, and Safina got the #1 ranking because she played many tournaments. Agreed with what you said, she should be ranked #5 behind the players you listed.

I think she's a good player, but doesn't deserve the world number one spot. She's quite emotional and her nerves get the better of her most of the time when it comes to big matches. I think if she balanced herself out mentally, she could be great. I think when she gets her emotions and nerves under contol, she will win a grand slam. She's not a bad player at all. She is very, very good. Grass just isn't her surface either. I think she could possible win at Roland Garros in the coming years.
