If you have an iPod and all of your music files are stored there, you can use a third-party program to copy the songs from your iPod to your computer. Major programs that do this task include iDump (which is a free software) and Music Rescue (which costs money).
I would suggest either storing or backing up your music on something other than your computer's hard-drive, such as CDs or an external hard-drive. This way, you can easily restore your music should you need to replace your hard-drive again, your computer crashes, or you purchase a new system.

What I did is I bought a jump- drive so that I always had my music ( or anything else) in case my computer crashed again. You could also buy blank CDs to store music or files.
