My computer and Networking is messed up!?
I just recently go a new router. Belkin (the newest one). I have a laptop that I connected to perfectly with the new router. My computer [Windows Xp; Yes it's old but still works] on the other hand is very difficult. When I try to set it up with the Setup Assistance it stops on the first step and says that the physical cords and adapters are not set up right. (Yes they are because I did the laptop perfectly) I think my ethernet is damaged. (But when I plug a connecting cord from the router it lights up) Or something is blocking the router getting into my network. My local area connection is always 'Renewing It's IP address', and my IP address is all Zero's. It's like I don't have one!

try this go to > start > run > type cmd and press enter > at the command prompt type > ipconfig /release (there is a space after ipconfig) press enter. Then type > ipconfig /renew (space after ipconfig) press enter. this should give you a new ip address so your computer will quit going crazy about it. If the release command doesn't work just type the renew command and you will be good.
Try doing this with the Ethernet cable plugged in first. But if your computer also has a wireless adapter you need to disable one of the connections so they are not both active at the same time. This will cause a problem if they are both trying to work at the same time
