My computer acts like it's possessed. HELP?

For the past few days, I can have my mouse cursor pointed ONLY on the bottom arrow on the side scroll bar, and web pages suddenly pop up out of nowhere. No url was put in the address area or anything. They have been pages for search engines, cell phones, pornography, etc. Half of them I have never heard of. What really irritates me is I'll be working on one page--like Yahoo Answers, or Facebook--and these pages come on and totally interfere with what I am doing. Last night a reply to a genealogy question on YA that I'd been working on for over 2 hours was totally lost because of these "pop-up pages."

It's bad enough having the pop-up ads, now I'm getting pop-up websites.WHY is this happening??? My Norton 360 antivirus and Symantec did a scan not too long before this started--the type where the technician takes control of your computer. Could that be the cause?

the symptoms you have described are nothing but a virus of some sort.. now i know you have Symantec and this is usually very good at picking up on viruses etc but it may be the case that you have gotten one it does not know about. there are two things you can do, the first is to write down the URL, the addres in your internet brower of the sites that show up in the pop-ups, some times the virus is connected with a specific site, if you know the site you can google it and get the virus name and then a fix...

The other solution is to download ZoneAlarm, this is a (free) firewall program but it has the advantage that it can block a program on your pc from accessing the internet, now to use this, your going to have to put a little time into knowing how your pc works, but heres a short guide, if you open internet explorer and zone alarm say " a program is trying to access the internet" and the name of the process is iexplore.exe, by googleing/yahooing it, you can see its internet explorer, but later if you see "a program is trying to access the internet" and its name is CL1XX1.exe, its most likely a virus, then you should block it...

thats the best i can do for an ans, i would say use zone alarm anyway, and try to track which virus you have, there maybe a manual way to remove it!

    :)

i know there are spelling mistakes in this post, but im not pedantic and the answer is legible + im waiting for a movie to steam :)

My computer done that about 3 months ago and come to find out someone had sent me a virus in an email and I opened the email and then My computer was doing all sorts of strange things. I would turn it on and it would go into shut down or hibernate. I would get porn on game sites. And be doing my genealogy and it would delete pages or block everything I was doing. I took it the the store I bought it at and they showed me how to fix it.Told me my Virus protection was not strong enough. So now it does pretty good.

Hmmm first i would delete any recently downloaded files. turn your internet security on if it is not and use internet tools to change your options. If that does not work try running on a linux cd for a little while also you might have some nasty addware, this can be caused by recently downloaded programs..... Update norton scan again ect ect eventually you will get it otherwise linux for untill someone u know that is tech savy can help you with it.

It's quite obvious that your computer has a virus. It could have been caused by the antivirus specialist, but that seems unlikely.

Many viruses these days are so advanced that they will actually override your antivirus software and make themselves unrecognizable.

You will need to use special recovery software to repair your computer. Take it to some kind of IT professional, but be wary of the fact that they will likely have to erase your hard drive, and they may not be able to recover your data.

    Good luck!

  • You definitely have a virus on your computer. I would run a full system scan and Norton should take care of the virus. If all else fails, consult a computer technician to check it out.

Could be possible that there is malware on your computer. It may not be a virus or a virus scanner could skip this file. I would say you may want to try and run a antispyware program. Also you may want to try and run the antivirus in the safemode to see if it will catch anything.

China has loaded undercover agent ware onto your pc using the flexibility of God. you may desire to acquire Malwarebytes (that is hench!) to a distinctive pc and placed the .exe document onto an exterior rigidity. Plug that into your contaminated computer, run the .exe and permit it deploy. as quickly because it has, run an entire test. as quickly as that is achieved, restart. in case you nevertheless have problems you may desire to do it in secure mode (decrease the flexibility to your computer without shutting down, then turn it on and whilst it comes up with some concepts decide for 'run in secure mode') and do yet another test. in case you nevertheless have problems then the virus is combating malwarebytes working right, you may desire to google your problems and keep on with on line classes. DONT pay attention to the individuals TELLING YOU TO WIPE YOUR no longer problem-free rigidity!! I even have had lots worse (considered necessary domicile windows data contaminated, combating me go surfing etc.)and recovered without dropping a unmarried document!

Same thing happened to my computer, it was a bad, bad virus which allowed a hacker to access our computer. If your computers going crazy on you chances are a virus. Get it checked because if it is your anti-viruses are no good and won't detect it. I would call a company to check it out.

You have Adware/Spyware/Malware/Grayware -- they're all the same stuff and it's not good. You should check out: http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversary-Edit...

And if you find that after scanning with Ad-Aware your computer is still having problems, check www.download.com for AVG Free Anti-Virus.
