Ive had a computer for around 4 yrs now.
So the first thing i got was the NORTON SECURITY SUITE. on like ebay for around $27. Its higher in wal-mart stores etc. around $54.
It takes care of everything so far. just type in the code on the cd envelope install the disc and follow instructions. You will be protected for a full year until the expiration date comes around it will tell you , you have so many days left. So what you do is go to ebay and purchase another for the NEXT YEAR say 2010 Norton security suite. The one i have now is 2009 Norton Sec. Suite. This set up is simple and effective.
now. as for ebay.
Ebay uses Paypal. which is safe to make purchases but the thing you have to remember is when you go to paypal always go through ebay and search for pay pal through the ebay site and log on , thats what i do.
when you recieve email from so called ebay or either paypal site saying your account has been violated or something of the sort, I just ignore it, its just spoof mail trying to get your account #'s... always go to the ebay site and go to your paypal site by exiting out , never log on through that web page they have sent to you .
Once i get on an official site i just make it as a short cut on my screen saver to go back to the same site the next time.
so far no problems, there are scammers out there so be careful hopefully these tips help.

First of all, if you are buying something online make sure that when you get to the page where you put your card number info in, be sure that the address bar at the top starts off with https:// and not just http://./ If it shows an https:// that means you are on a secure website that is using at least 128-bit encryption. Second if you ever get an email that states there is something wrong with your account on let's say ebay make sure that it came from ebay. Most of the time these emails have a link in them that you go to in order to update your info. If you roll your cursor over the link you can see the website that is associated with that link in the bottom left of your browser window. Most of the time they are different websites then who they claim to be, if you are ever in doubt you can always call someone to make sure if there is something wrong with your account. This is known as "phishing" when someone tries to impersonate a legitimate website and directs you to another website to try and get your info. Also it is a good idea to never store your card info with a website, it may seem like a hassle to always have to go get your card when you are buying something online. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Finally make sure that the fraudulent activity was not caused by someone getting your card info from you, like leaving it out so that someone could copy the number and security number from the back along with your name.
