Do you donate money to charity? If yes, what types of charity?

I like to donate money to charities that help people who are poor and live in terrible conditions.

I'd never give a dime to The Starvation Army. My experiences with that lot led me to conclude they are theistic loan sharks, no better than Southern Baptists.

Locally, I donate to an ecumenical shelter/education center that welcomes all faiths and non-believers as volunteers. The food donated goes straight to the mouths of the hungry. I know this because I help serve it. The director is an attorney who gave up a high-paying job to help the community at less than 1/10th of what he could be earning.

Nationally, the Red Cross. Because of health, I cannot donate blood.

I can identify with you. I was also in an accident and due to the accident I am unable to work. We were insured, but the insurance company paid the Dr. 450,000.00 to say I was fine. I almost died this summer due to complications of the accident and we did not receive any settlement. If I were you I would go to the food shelf, and also ask the pastor of your church to explain your situation to the people, and ask for prayer, if people in the church know that you are hurting many of them will give you money. My girlfriend and her husband did this and they received more money from people wanting to help than if they would have both been working. If you belong to a truly Christian Church the people will run to offer help to you. I know this from experience. But you must make your needs known. Also there is a benefit option through Thrivent Lutheran Service. If you have a fund raiser they will match the amount that you make at the fund raiser. So often people will have a spaghetti dinner that people can come to an donate money for the person or persons that are struggling with health issues or financial issues and then they will match it. It sounds like you just need to let the people in your church know you need help.

I donate to all charities if I like their cause. Also I check out the charity on the Better Business Bureau website. You type in bbb.org in the address bar. You click the button, check out a business or charity.

It shows you if they meed the twenty standards of accountability or not. Plus what % of their funds are used for what reason.

I don't have money to give, so I donate my time to the March of Dimes. Under 20% goes to running the charity, and the rest goes to research. Over 500,000 premature babies are living now because of the March of Dimes.

Here's the page where I raise money (Paypal, check, or debit)... Even a dollar will help!!
