Deck and Staining Accident, how do I fix it?
The outdoor deck/balcony just built was accidentally stained, not only with indoor stain, but also with the color black walnut, when we wanted a much lighter color. As I understand it, since the stain goes deep into the wood, we can't sand it out. Is there any way we can still get the wood to look like wood with a light stain, or is the mistake irreparable?

Powerwash it a few times and let it age...sunlight might lighten it over time.

Try applying a very light stain in an inconspicuous area and hopefully it will lighten it some. But you will never get it back to the original.

The stain does penetrate really deep. That is why it is better than paint. My advice is to try to turn the boards over or replace them entirely if you can't.

brush on some laundry bleach, and let it sit. I've done it on furniture to match grain
