Why do dogs bark at fireworks?

My dog wont stop barking until his voice gets hoarse.

Does he think people are getting shot or something? Or does he bark because hes annoyed and wants it to stop?

Most people only see fireworks a few times a year. (I only see them once a year.) As such, most people fail to desensitize their dogs to the noise. It's a completely foreign sound to them.. wouldn't you freak out? It's a sudden, relentless, obnoxiously loud boom/pop/crack. It's just a scary thing for a dog who has no idea what it is. Or, the dog may confuse it for thunder (of which many dogs are also scared because it's a big, loud, scary noise, and because the static cling in the air is uncomfortable for them). Orrrr, the dog may have developed an unrelated association with the fireworks.. as another respondent mentioned, some dogs have had bad experiences with things that make a noise like fireworks do (like small explosive-type-things, guns, etc.). But anyway, for the most part, it's just an extremely loud, sudden, totally bizarre, scary noise.

EDIT: I should probably tie in my answer to the question more thoroughly. Dogs who are frightened or agitated often bark. Dogs are dogs, dogs bark. I don't speak "dog." They're warning the thing away, they're just expressing their emotions (fear, irritation), they're alerting the world (and you) to the danger, they're trying to scare the thing away.. there are lots of potential reasons, all based in the dog's discomfort with the noise.

Hope you're not taking him *to* the fireworks. If they are going off around your home, your pup is (understandably) stressed about that. Most dogs cannot be calm around fireworks. The loud sounds damage their hearing, anomg other things. A muzzle will not stop a dog from barking, either. So instead of expecting him to "shut up", you could bring him somewhere else (that's fireworks-free) or give him 3 mg of Melatonin to try to ease the stress.

Dog training are excellent and very helpful to build you a stronger relationship with your dog. Read more https://tr.im/onlinedogtraining

After I started training my dog, he became very attached to me and loves to stay by side as long as he can. But just going to them won't help. You have to practice what they teach you outside of the class and you need to keep up with it at least every now and then after the class ends otherwise they'll just go back to previous habits. This course is a really good place to go for dog obedience classes. It get's your dog around other people and dogs to socialize while getting the training you need. As for electric collars, I would say to not get one. In my experience, they're only a negative effect on your dog. I mean of course you're going to need to correct your dog, but being positive and encouraging your dog works a lot faster and easier.

Every dog is different, so unless you have a german shepherd or a really smart dog, it might take a while to train her. You might get frustrated with her, but go easy. She's still a puppy and has a lot of energy. A backyard or somewhere to run will help her get rid of a lot of energy that might cause her to misbehave from boredom.

Your dog is upset by the fireworks and he is reacting by barking. He doesn't know what all those loud noises are, but he doesn't like them.

My dog was perfectly fine with the fireworks exploding and stuff.

Prolly, your dog was frightened. I suggest you put her in a room where she won't hear the fireworks.

my dog doesn't like the sound of fireworks because our neighbor used to throw black cats at her. she actually tried to attack the sky tonight because of it. if she hears gun shots on the tv she will look at the speakers with her hackles up and growl at them

He's freaked out and doesn't know what it is, most likely... also he probably is annoyed and wants it to stop :)
