Well, Fallout 3 is neither...Fallout 3 is a sandbox game. You can do (almost) anything you wish in the game. Each action you do changes how you play. There is a whole bunch of fun and unique quest you can do in the game for hours and hours of game play. With each enemy (or friend) you kill you get exp to level up your character and unlock new abilities. You can buy new weapons from different stores they have inside the game and the game play is always a different experience every time you get on. I would recommend maybe to rent this game first at a local blockbuster or other video store if you are unsure you want to buy the game or not. I hope this helped!

It's not turn based, but you can kind of view it that way. You can switch from first person to third person, and it is a RPG. Like any other RPG, you collect items, sell them to shops (or kill the seller), get money, gain levels for different skills, etc.

So yes, it is a mix between FPS and RPG, unless you want to view it in third person.
