What's a good party based fantasy RPG for PC?

please don't suggest World of Warcraft. It looks like an excellent game, but I really do not like multi-player games.

What I'm looking for is something like Might & Magic VI, VII, or VIII, or Wizardry 8, where it was a single player game, but you controlled several characters. I've played Might & Magic VII so many times, that the only thing I need the Prima guide for any more is the boat schedule.

I've played some single player RPGs, like Oblivion, Fallout 1-3 (thank goodness for turn based combat) Neverwinter Nights, and Fable, but I'd really like a party based RPG.

It's sad, but I can't remember any recent ones :(

It seems to be a format that is falling out of favor, with the fanbase split between MMOs and party-based JRPGs. JRPGs are not really RPGs at all, and mostly they remind you of a Disneyworld boat ride - the delivery is slick, and the ride is pleasant, but just under the water you can see that it's running on rails. Way too linear to be a true RPG - but the storylines are often epic and well done.

That, and you sound like you aren't into the console thing. Still if you want to try it and you can still find it, Final Fantasy 8 was a PC title.

I liked most of the AD&D based party RPGs, but got driven nuts by the last several buggy titles I tried like Wizards and Warriors. Oblivion was a fantastic title, but the lack of a party gave the huge gameworld a rather lonely feeling. I downloaded mods for it that gave you a sidekick who would help you in battles so had my own mini-party.

If you haven't checked http://www.rpgwatch.com/ scan the forums there. They have better ideas about good party RPGs to try.

EDIT: Saw this review there: http://www.rpgwatch.com/show/article?articleid=123...

Looks like it would be a cool PC title for party RPGers

I absolutely loved Dragon Age Origins (on the PC). Every variation in character and class has a different starting story and even the different genders have different reactions/dialogue from NPCs. It was the first RPG I ever actually finished and I've played it through 7 times now. Every playthrough has been different. I did finally go back and finish oblivion after that.

Travian is a very simple but extremely fun and addictive browser based MMORPG/Strategy game with no downloads and its FREE! I currently play on 4 different servers and I'm heading towards the top on all of them.
