Yes, I am a nerd. I am currently very much Sims2 obsessed, just look at my Answers! And yes, if you do have a serious Sims2 question, you can e-mail me, there is no need to apologize for asking questions :) I have also recently discovered Webkinz. It's like stuffed animals, Sims, and Yahoo! Games got all smashed together into one, and those are some of my favorite things! If you are just begging for account names / secret codes, I will report you. Any actual Webkinz questions, I will answer as best I can.

  • Is there is a way to change the system font on Windows 10 *without* having to edit the registry?

Is there is a way to change the system font on Windows 10 *without* having to edit the registry? Trying to get something bolder, so that it is more readable. Increasing the zoom level doesn't work, as many windows / boxes are much to large and no longer fit on the screen.

  • Windows 10, Corel X6 will not yield priority?

I just upgraded to Windows 10, and other than having to re-install all my local printers, everything seems to be doing very well. One odd, and very annoying thing however, is that Corel X6 always remains the active program. I tend to have 3 or more programs running at the same time, and with Windows 7, I could just select the icon from my task bar to switch to a different program. If I am using Corel X6, and click the icon for Firefox, Chrome, or anything else, Corel X6 stays the active program. I must minimize it to see any of my other programs. Now if Corel is minimized, clicking the icons in my task bar will let me switch between Outlook, Firefox, Word, or whatever else I'm using.

I'm not sure what setting I need to change to get Corel X6 to yield priority without having to minimize it.

  • How to set Windows 7 to always alert before running .exe files?

I'm running Window 7 Professional, 64 bit, and it used to always alert me before running a .exe file. That is exactly as I wanted it to be, but today I unchecked the box telling Windows yo always ask me before running .exe files.

How do I change that back?

  • what am I missing regarding answering the telephone?

I have been answering the telephone for one business or another for over 25 years, and very recently have noticed an odd trend.

I always answer the phone the same way, "Good afternoon, [company name]. This is [my name], may I help you?" If the caller wishes to speak to someone who is not available, I will say "He's already gone for the day. May I take a message, or is there anything I can help you with?" or the related response, "She's with a customer right now. May I take a message, or is there anything I can help you with?"

In the past 3 months I have had 3 different customers accuse me of rudeness, and spend a minimum of 5 minutes berating me for having one of these exchanges with them.

I am befuddled. Is there some new standard of phone etiquette of which I am unaware?

  • Where can I buy Sims2 Seasons?

I checked Amazon, and they were only showing pre-owned copies, which makes me a bit nervous. Wal-mart, Gamestop, Best Buy, Fry's and Microcenter all did not seem to have it. I looked on origin.com, and for a minute I saw where I could download it from EA (which would be fine) but then it asked for my country, and none of the choices were United States of America. I could choose Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, and a few other countries where I do not live.

I'm not looking for a torrent, pirated copy, or anything like that. I'd be fine with a purchased digital download from a reputable site, or a physical disk, either from a brick & mortar store, or one that would be shipped to me.

Yes, I know that Sims3 and Sims4 are out. I am not looking to buy either of those right now. I'm only looking for Sims2 Seasons, and Sims2 Pets. I found a new copy of the Pets and Mansion & Garden bundle on Amazon, so that's all set :)

  • Skyrim PS3, no more arrow to the knee?

I had played Skyrim on PS3 when it first came out, and it seemed like every third guard would talk to me about how they used to be an adventurer like me, until they took an arrow to the knee.

That console died, so I just started over. I have the official patch that the PS3 prompted me to install, but no expansion packs or anything else. I'm a level 8 character, but have yet to hear a single guard mention being shot in the knee. They seem to mostly be talking about the dragon attacking Helgen, and the Dragonborn being summoned by the Grey Beards.

As in my previous incarnation, I'm spending most of my time in Whiterun.

Have I just not completed whatever task / level up that triggers the start of the arrow to the knee comments? Or were they removed with the patch?

I tried googling this, but did not find any firm answers.

I actually miss being told about the arrow to the knee...

  • Happy Farm / PocketFarm, cannot buy alpaca, "not enough space here"?

I've been playing Happy Farm / PocketFarm on my Android phone for about a month. I have already purcahsed an alpaca house, but whenever I try to purchase an alpaca, I get an error of "not enough space here". I removed some trees and rocks in case I had reached an object limit, and made sure I was trying to place the alpaca where there were no crops, buildings, etc. I linked the account on my phone with my facebook account, thinking it might be easier on thye computer, but the farm in my FB account is all the way back at level 1, not at all the farm on my phone. I found the official forum, but the sign up / log-in page is in Chinese! I've sent messages several times through the in-game help, and received no response. How do I add that blasted alpaca?

  • restore deafult keyboard settings, Windows 7?

I dropped a paperweight on my keyboard yesterday, and I think I got the Windows key stuck down, because none of the keys did what I expected when I pressed them. I have a new kayboard now, it is mostly okay, but the letters C and H will not work in any Windows windows, or in Corel Draw X6. They work fine in notepad, outlook, IE9, etc. The virtual keyboard works fine, but is very annoying to use.

I think I may have somehow remapped the C and H keys. Is there a way to restore the default keyboard map? I've tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers, changing keyboards, using a different USB port, and rebooting my computer numerous times.

  • windows had a critical failure, now I have no video card?

as soon as I turned on my computer today, I got a pop up that Windows had a critical failure and would log me off in 1 minute, which it did. I had no cursor to turn off my computer, so I pressed the power button to turn it off. When I turned it back on, it booted up okay, but I could not see anything on my monitor. When I unplugged it, it displayed an auto test pattern, when I plugged it back in, it said it had no signal and went to power save mode. I got an old monitor and plugged it into my on board graphics. When I go to my device manager, it says I'm using plug and pray, and does not even list my actual graphics card. It is an ATI Radeon 3850.

I did just get a pop up that the ATI catalyst converter was not compatible with my current graphics adapter, so I don't know if that means something, or if ATI is just telling me it does not know what to do with on-board graphics.

I'm going to try now to download new drivers, see if that helps, but I'm afraid my graphics card is fried. Why would it all of a sudden do that? Yes, I had been playing Civilization III recently, so it auto switched to a lower resolution for that, but that should not kill my graphics card!

  • old Magnavox TV, can't find AV ports?

I have an old Magnavox TV from 1992, model # RS1965 B222 and cannot find the AV ports (the red, yellow, and white ones that I would need to plug in my almost as old Xbox). Am I just not looking in the right place, or does this TV not have such ports? I found the place to plug in a co-ax cable, like for cable television, but nothing else that looked very port like.

I would RTFM, but I tried to find a owner's manual on-line with no luck either.

  • Windows 7, text not fitting in dialog boxes?

So I've had Windows 7 for all of 3 days now, and I have noticed that there are some dialog boxes, particularly tabbed dialog boxes, where the text is running off to the right and bottom. The ones I've noticed have been in the "add printer" wizard, and the one to change system sounds. I have tried changing the screen resolution, changing my font size, and I still can't see all the text. The change system sounds dialog box is NOT resizable by normal methods (just dragging out a corner, or hitting the maximize button) and there are no scroll bars. Is there a way for me to be able to see all the text in un-resizable dialog boxes without downloading some 3rd party program of questionable origin?

  • movie with autistic child who breaks secret code?

this movie was probably made in the mid 90's, I thought it had Bruce Willis as the cop / detective, but I didn't see it on his imdb page.

There is a little boy named Simon who is autistic, and is very good at puzzles. He breaks some top secret code that someone put into a word puzzle book. He has all these flash cards with him to remind him that the stove is hot, it's okay to ride the school bus...

Argh! what was the name of that movie?

  • kids' movie from early 80's, monsters in a graveyard?

I saw about half of this movie years ago, before there was an "info" button on the remote, so I am not sure when it was made, or the names of any of the actors.

It took place in the current time, late 70's or early 80's. The main character was a boy, age 12-14. There was a cemetery near his home, and monsters / demons lived there. There were good monsters and bad monsters, and something about sunset. I think none of the monsters could come out during the day? Maybe only the bad monster couldn't come out during the day? The boy had to help the good monsters defeat or banish the bad monsters.

I've already watched Monster Squad and Portal, those are not the movie I am thinking of.

  • Where did Webkinz Insider go?

I was on there earlier today, webkinzinsider.com, and now the site seems to have vanished! All I'm getting is a "404 Not Found" error. I tried switching browsers, clearing my cache, nothing worked. You'd think if they were going to be down for scheduled updates, one of the mods would have put an announcement on the home page.

  • is begging on Y! Answers a reportable offense?

I've read the Community Guidelines, User Agreement, etc., but don't see this specific issue addressed.

I've recently become interested in Webkinz, and have started trying to answer some of the questions on that topic. Webkinz are cute stuffed animals that come with a one time use only code that you can use to activate an on-line version of your stuffed animal. You then get to play games with your animal, buy it clothes, build it a house, etc. As I've said, these codes can only be used once, and after one year your account expires if you don't buy a new stuffed animal with a new code.

Many of the questions on Y! Answers are "can someone give me their webkinz account name and password? I just want to play the arcade games for an hour" Those are obviously phishing and I report them as such. The ones that I think should be reportable are "can someone give me an unused webkinz code? I can't get a new one because *insert lame reason here*"

It's certainly annoying to see people begging for codes that someone else had to spend $5 - $15 to get, but is it reportable? I think what annoys me most, is that webkinz are targeted towards a rather young age group, and some of the people that actually answer with real webkinz codes, are just kids that don't know any better. Yes, I know you're supposed to be 13 to get a Y! Answers, but we all know that there are kids younger than that on here.

  • What's a good party based fantasy RPG for PC?

please don't suggest World of Warcraft. It looks like an excellent game, but I really do not like multi-player games.

What I'm looking for is something like Might & Magic VI, VII, or VIII, or Wizardry 8, where it was a single player game, but you controlled several characters. I've played Might & Magic VII so many times, that the only thing I need the Prima guide for any more is the boat schedule.

I've played some single player RPGs, like Oblivion, Fallout 1-3 (thank goodness for turn based combat) Neverwinter Nights, and Fable, but I'd really like a party based RPG.

  • Game with cardboard disks, from the 90's?

I've been trying to remember what this game was called. It was a fad in the early to mid 90's, mostly among middle school and junior high kids. You had bunch of cardboard disks with all sorts of pictures printed on them, and sometimes they were shiny or holographic. There was also a big metal disk, that looked a lot like a shuriken or throwing star. I don't remember the exact rules to play, but you threw the shuriken at the cardboard disks, and depending on how or where they landed, either you got to keep them, or whoever you were playing against kept them.

  • Fallout3 for PS3, purified water?

There's a guy outside the gate to Megaton that wants purified water, Mitch? Mick? Anyway, I gave him a bottle and he said thank you, and now he just wants more! So is this like Fred in the Den in Fallout2, where if you paid off his gambling debt, he would later pay you back, plus give you a Power Fist and energy cells? Or is this thirsty guy just there to look pitiful so I'll give him all my purified water?

Are they intentionally using very incorrect English, do they not care, or do they just not know any better?
