Windows 7, text not fitting in dialog boxes?
So I've had Windows 7 for all of 3 days now, and I have noticed that there are some dialog boxes, particularly tabbed dialog boxes, where the text is running off to the right and bottom. The ones I've noticed have been in the "add printer" wizard, and the one to change system sounds. I have tried changing the screen resolution, changing my font size, and I still can't see all the text. The change system sounds dialog box is NOT resizable by normal methods (just dragging out a corner, or hitting the maximize button) and there are no scroll bars. Is there a way for me to be able to see all the text in un-resizable dialog boxes without downloading some 3rd party program of questionable origin?
calling the people? I'm sorry, no issue is so serious as to be worth the time to try and get a live person from Microsoft tech support. And yes, I can google, and have googled, and the the fixes that I could find involved downloading 3rd party software of questionable origin.
thanks bon-gart. Since I am visually impaired, I do in fact need to have my fonts set larger for me to able to comfortably read the monitor. I did set the font size back down to 100% (normal) and double check to make sure the DPI setting was also set back to normal. Re-booted for those setting to take effect, and I still had no luck with those tabbed dialog boxes. Since Windows7 came pre-loaded on the new computer that my boss ordered for me from Dell, I'm sure that I have a legit copy. Perhaps if it affects a window that is more crucial than the change system sounds one, I will brave the voicemail maze.

I suspect you have spent time exploring the operating system (from your description of where the problems are) and furthermore, I suspect you have been spending some time customizing the appearance of your copy of Windows 7. What backs up my suspicions, is the fact that your problems are not normal... that is to say that not everyone is encountering these issues. Far from it, in fact.
So, *IF* you have indeed been customizing the appearance of your copy of Windows 7, specifically the DIFFERENT Font Sizes attached to different aspects of the OS...
... when you hit Display, from the C0ntrol Panel, make sure it is set to SMALLER...
... when you bring up the Set Custom Text Size (DPI) make sure it is set to only 100%, and that it states you are using Segoe UI at 96 pixels per inch...
Now.. if you don't WANT to use these settings, I can understand your frustration at the OS not looking like it should... and that is an issue you would take up with Microsoft Directly. However, if you use those default settings that I specified, it should look normal, and text should fit in the text boxes provided. Since you ARE a legal licensee of Microsoft Windows, Every issue you might encounter with Microsoft is worth talking to a Live Representative... and all you need do is wade through the pre-recorded crap to get to one. Whether you feel it is worth YOUR time to do so is another matter altogether.
Now... using the Factory Recovery discs or partition should also return the computer to a state where the text fits in all the text boxes.
