St.Petersburg, Florida, Beaches?

We're planning to go for a week-long trip to the St.Petersburg, Florida, area this coming week. I would like to go to a nice beach that's family friendly to experience the Gulf Coast beaches without too much going on and without too many crowds. I've heard good things about Fort De Soto. Any suggestions, or comments on Fort De Soto beach?

Fort De Soto is a great park complete with bike trails, small hiking trails, wildlife, old spanish fort ruins, beaches, fishing piers, and easily a weeks worth of fun. Its a county park and they have a campground on site if you are looking to stay close. There aren't other lodging within walking distance, so that is something to consider if you are looking to stay on the beach. With that one exception, this is probably one of the most family friendly beaches in the area.

I don’t know much about Fort de Soto beach but in the Gulf Coast, the best beach I’ve been to is St. George Island. I’ve been to this beach several times and it’s a nice vacation spot for families. It’s definitely uncommercialized, well-preserved, there’s not too many people and nature is still at its best. There are a lot of things to do in this island, both water and non-water activities. Surrounding areas like Apalachicola and Eastpoint are easily accessible so you have more options for shopping, sight-seeing and dining.

fort de sota is good. you can also take a ferry from there to Egmont Key, it's a large isolated island that has Spanish-American war ruins(forts) on it. Reddington beach and Madeira beah are also great choices. Once you get down there you'll see you can't really go wrong much of anywhere. Hope you have a great trip.

Seista Key, palms down (relatively on Sunday while they have the drum-circle). Longboat Key and Lido tie for 2d. a great stretch of Longboat secret is marked as "inner maximum" yet there are some places on the main highway that are hidden for public parking. And once you're a fan, Stephen King has a house there. tension into St. Armand's for the period of "snow chicken season," and you're apt to work out him... Jerry Springer is likewise a straight forward sight on Seista Key, lol.
