Tips/Gratuities in Spain?
We will be visiting Madrid and Barcelona for the first time. (We live in California, USA) What is customary for tipping at restaurants and for services? How much is the typical tip or gratuity? For starters, we will need to tip the driver who takes us from the airport to our hotel!

Restaurants include the gratuity in the check. Once in a while I tip more than a bit of change. I once was really treated rudely by a waiter, and ignored, so I went on to the next section, and really over did it...20% plus, in hopes that the waitress told him, and really chapped him off. But for the most part, just a little bit of change is fine. Of course, the Euro isn't printed on paper until you get to a 5, so, a little change goes a long way, too.
I gave the cabbies a couple of Euros extra for each bag, and about 5 or so more...so, like, a 35€ trip to the airport, I think I paid him 50 for three of us, and a few bags.
Most other services...I usually go about the same, a couple of Euros per bag if you have a bellman (we use Hostales, so...no such thing).

You don't need to give a tip to the driver, but if he is nice you should give him a tip. In Spain we only give tips when we are happy why the service. Ussually is a 10%.

We mostly give anything upto 10%, but some don't tip anything near that. They tip less than the US.
